Join our team as a carpenter for ODOT Facilities Services! You’ll coordinate with contractors, customers and utility partners to keep projects running smoothly, offer smart solutions, manage schedules and help ensure our buildings stay in top shape. If you enjoy independent problem solving, staying organized, and keeping a busy team moving, this role is for you!

  • Perform skilled carpentry work including building walls, constructing concrete forms, placing and finishing concrete and assembling frame structures.
  • Plan and construct suspended ceilings; install floor and wall coverings.
  • Design and build custom cabinets; apply laminates and spray finishes.
  • Produce custom millwork using stationary power tools (table saws, planers, jointers, sanders) and portable tools (saws, sanders, routers, fastening equipment).
  • Conduct employee housing inspections, prepare project scopes of work, make repairs and oversee contractors performing specialty trade work.
  • Perform housing repairs ranging from roofing and kitchen/bath remodels to flooring replacement, painting, stairs, windows, ducting, and canopies.
  • Work in occupied environments to construct or modify office areas, reconfigure systems furniture, and build or adjust work and storage spaces.
  • Repair and install windows and doors.
  • Monitor service vehicles and ensure proper repairs and preventive maintenance are completed.
  • Employee may occasionally work in areas of poor lighting, ventilation, noise, and low clearances.
  • Employee may occasionally be exposed to dust, hazard chemicals, electrical, and mechanical hazards.

Requirements

Four years experience as a skilled carpenter. The experience must include form building; rough framing; outside and inside finishing; layout; care and use of tools and woodworking machinery; blueprint reading; and application of safety standards and codes; OR

Completion of an apprenticeship (four years) under a skilled carpenter which included experience as listed above. Be sure a copy of your Journeyman Carpenters card is attached to your application form.


Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid U.S. driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
