Purpose:

To assure the safe and efficient day to day functioning of the SOL BARBADOS LTD operated facilities.

Principal

Accountabilities:

  • Always assure the highest level of safety awareness and practices.
  • Conducting plant operation activities, including:
    • Washing cylinders.
    • Inspecting and sorting cylinders.
    • Sandblasting (requires the operation of the shot blaster).
    • Repair and replace valves.
    • Test and weigh filled cylinders for accuracy in volume and weight.
    • Pressure testing and inspecting cylinders for leaks.
    • Decant leaking cylinders.
    • Sleaving.
    • Packing and truck loading.
    • Moving goods, loaded pallets and equipment safely and securely.  Forklift operator must be suitably trained and qualified in operating lift truck equipment.
  • Ensure that the depot is always maintained in a clean condition i.e., good housekeeping.
  • Assist with gauging and dipping of tanks, tanker receipts, maintenance, inspections, testing and cleaning as directed by the Senior Plantman, LPG Foreman and Facilities Supervisor.
    • Complete all depot inspections.
    • Carry out daily preventive maintenance as directed on all drains, sumps, pipelines, fire systems, depot pumps and other equipment.
    • Check all fire extinguishers weekly and ensure maintenance checks are carried out and records kept.
    • Wash down the ramp weekly and clean all road transport fleet.
    • Maintain drum storage area.  Check daily for leaking lubricant storage drums and other containers and report to LPG Foreman and Facilities Supervisor.
    • Maintain depot oil water interceptor by way of cleaning.
    • Check and report all product storage vessels and equipment for leaks/faults and maintain all areas free of oil.
    • Report all leaks and damages to the LPG Foreman and Facilities Supervisor.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of spares, parts, tools, and equipment.
    • All records must be fully and accurately completed and must be submitted to the LPG Foreman on time.
    • Complete depot walkarounds and report any Hazard IDs to the LPG Foreman.
    • Assist in unpacking containers.
    • Participate in any process optimisation, maintenance improvement initiatives or projects.
  • Ensure that all product waste is disposed of safely to group standards and that proper records are made, kept and forwarded, through Facility Supervisor, to central files.
  • Ensure safety and perimeter fences are free of vines and vegetation.
  • Ensure LPG depot signage is updated, in place and legible always.
  • Ensure that all HSSE standards and practices are complied with in all work-related activities.
  • Full adherence to the Sol policies and procedures, particularly the PPE policy.  Ensure PPE is stored, handled, and maintained as directed.
  • Attend safety and toolbox meetings and execute tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in any assigned training.
  • Participate in all scheduled drills and exercises.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, drug, and alcohol testing as per the Company policies and must have a Police Certificate of Character.
  • Employee must be capable of frequently lifting cylinders weighing 40-50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work outside of basic job description.  May be requested to work at any of the Sol Barbados Ltd. Operating facilities (e.g., Spring Garden, Holborn, Barbados Port Inc) as required.

Qualification Requirements:

  • A sound secondary education with qualification from a technical college or institution. 
  • 3 to 5 years working in an industrial facility.

Other Competency Requirements:

  • Preferably computer literate.
  • A practical operator with a proven ability to get things done competently and on time.
  • Have mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Able to self-plan and deliver results.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and an attitude to work well with others in teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • HSSE and Emergency Codes compliance.

Other Information:

In addition to basic salary the successful applicant shall receive applicable job grade allowances and be eligible to participate in The Sol Group Pension Scheme and its non-contributory Group Health and Life Insurance Scheme.
