Health System Specialist

Monitoring and evaluation professionals are requested to transform data into enhanced health interventions in Liberia.

Liberia, recovering from years of civil conflict and the Ebola epidemic, faces ongoing public health challenges, including high maternal and infant mortality rates, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and high incidence of infectious diseases like malaria. County health teams ensure communities have access to essential health interventions, but despite this, malaria remains a significant health challenge that requires reinforced efforts in education, outreach, and community engagement. The county health teams identified insufficient data management and analysis capabilities as hindering the effectiveness of health assessments.

As Health Systems Specialist, you will collaborate with the county health teams to strengthen malaria interventions and local monitoring and evaluation (M&E) capacities. Together, you will enhance the country’s available health services and contribute to a healthier population.

Competitive candidates must meet all of the following criteria:

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Public Health, International Development, Statistics, Social Science, or related field
AND
2 or more years of experience with monitoring, evaluation and learning, including experience with M&E tools and software/systems

Volunteers will live in a city close to the work site. Volunteers may need to travel in rural-urban communities to provide technical assistance in addition to traveling within their assigned community.

Assist in the collection and analysis of data to inform program adjustments.
Conduct training sessions for health workers.
Engage with community leaders and health workers to create an inclusive approach to health data management.
Plan and facilitate malaria prevention activities, including the distribution of insecticide-treated nets.
Foster sustainable partnerships to share resources and effective practices.
Monitor and evaluate malaria incidence and prevalence.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as life skills camps and school gardens.

After a 2-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban community where you will collaborate with health workers. You will work with the community to assess the local needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Liberia will teach basic Liberian English to help you connect with the community.
