PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Humanities and Global Perspectives Teacher plays a pivotal role within the School community. The main purpose of the role is to prepare students to become globally minded citizens with strong intercultural understanding, confidence, independence, leadership and ownership of their learning.
The teacher will deliver engaging and challenging Humanities and Global Perspectives lessons in line with the Cambridge International Curriculum while promoting high standards of academic achievement, pastoral care and student wellbeing. The role also contributes to the wider life of the School through collaboration, safeguarding responsibilities, curriculum development and active participation in school events and initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
- Teach Humanities and Global Perspectives in accordance with the Cambridge International Curriculum.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop individual and collaborative research skills across environmental, humanities and global issues-based topics.
- Promote student-centred learning that encourages confidence, independence, leadership and critical thinking.
- Research and develop new curriculum topic areas while maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge.
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular learning opportunities.
- Promote literacy, numeracy and digital literacy across the curriculum.
- Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and student progress.
Assessment and Curriculum
- Prepare students for internal and external assessments.
- Ensure assessments are conducted and moderated in line with school and external examination expectations.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive and fair records of formative and summative assessment data.
- Write reports on student performance for internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Analyse and respond to student performance data to support achievement and progress.
- Manage curriculum resources effectively to ensure lessons are engaging and appropriate to students’ needs.
Pastoral and Form Tutor Responsibilities
- Support the academic and personal development of students through effective form tutoring.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and carers as the initial point of contact.
- Participate in discussions, interventions and reviews concerning student academic and pastoral progress.
- Lead or contribute to pastoral interventions where required.
- Support tutor programmes and wider student wellbeing initiatives.
Welfare and Discipline
- Maintain high standards of student behaviour, attendance and uniform.
- Monitor student welfare and provide guidance, support and encouragement.
- Follow all school health, safety and safeguarding procedures both on and off site.
- Participate in supervision duties as required by duty and cover rotas.
- Ensure students feel valued, supported and cared for within the school environment.
Communication and Collaboration
- Support and uphold the School’s mission, vision and values.
- Contribute positively and professionally to meetings, school initiatives and collaborative planning.
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers, colleagues and external organisations.
- Liaise with examination boards and other external agencies where appropriate.
- Support school events, activities and wider community engagement.
Professional Responsibilities
- Engage fully in professional learning, appraisal and performance management processes.
- Maintain professional conduct in accordance with school policies and expectations.
- Take responsibility for mentoring and supporting new colleagues where appropriate.
- Maintain a teaching load and undertake additional duties as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
- Behave at all times as a positive role model for students and the wider school community.
Safeguarding
- Take seriously the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Ensure school safeguarding, child protection and health and safety policies are implemented effectively.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify, assess and support students who may be at risk of harm.
