Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. 
 
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Coordinator, Legislative Affairs and Global Advocacy. This job Coordinator reports to the National Director of Legislative Affairs, with a dotted line to the Senior Director, Global Advocacy, within the Political and Legislative Affairs Department within the External Affairs Division of PPFA.  
  • Provide support to the Legislative Affairs and Global Advocacy team in the planning and execution of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s work to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care at home and abroad.This position manages key systems to ensure successful workflow while at the same time tracking essential legislative and policy debates, key legislation, and coalition efforts that impacts our federal priorities and leading key projects for the Legislative Affairs team and cross department activities. The Legislative Affairs and Global Advocacy Coordinator jumps in to support urgent legislative priorities while keeping track of ongoing, long term work projects to help the Legislative Affairs team reach strategic goals. The Coordinator interacts diplomatically and enthusiastically with a variety of stakeholders, including colleagues across the organization, coalition partners, supporters, affiliates, and congressional offices.
  • Plans and supports legislative events in conjunction with affiliates, congressional offices, and partner organizations (i.e. lobby days, pressers, events with Congressional Caucuses, etc).
  • Coordinates with staff and partners to inform and support advocacy efforts internally and within legislative coalition spaces.
  • Attends external legislative affairs events and meetings, takes notes, and develops first drafts of priority documents such as backgrounders on MOCs, briefings, one-pagers on issue areas related to SRH, and other documents as needed for the hill.
  • Work closely with colleagues in other divisions to engage affiliates, youth leaders, and supporters on legislative and global advocacy priorities.
  • Assists members of the Legislative Affairs team with monitoring and attending Congressional hearings, briefings, floor time, and other meetings as necessary.
  • Manages the overall coordination and workflow of the Legislative Affairs team to keep projects and business management streamlined.  
  • Support scheduling and expense reporting for the National Director, Legislative Affairs.
  • Provides general support towards the effective management of the Legislative Affairs team, including scheduling large meetings and conference calls, processing expenses, organizing meeting logistics, and supporting federal lobbying compliance reporting.
  • Helps develop and manage systems to support team workflow, track progress against goals, support donor reporting, and assists in the development of presentations about the work.
  • Tracks and reports to the Political and Legislative Affairs and other internal teams on federal legislation and Congressional/committee votes, monitors policy debates on sexual and reproductive health, including at the United Nations, and regularly conducts online research and prepares summaries in support of the development of advocacy materials.
  • Drafts communications and supports outreach to PPFA affiliates, supporters, coalition partners, and congressional offices.
  • Plays a key role in the planning and execution of lobby days, Congressional briefings, receptions, and other public-facing events.
  • Manages pay orders and contracts for the Legislative Affairs team.
  • Responsible for making routine, relatively low-cost expenditures (such as travel, office supplies, or event costs) with prior approval from supervisor or department head.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of directly-related, progressively responsible administrative support experience with experience in project management preferred.
  • Interest in working with Congress and knowledge of the federal legislative process.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong computer skills including word processing, database, spreadsheet and use of the internet.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent writing skills, critical thinking, and proactive problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Intermediate understanding of sexual and reproductive health care issues  and ability to apply that knowledge in professional settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, organization, communication, and customer service skills and the ability to build trust and credibility with internal and external partners.
  • Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.
