Job Summary:

The Field Safety Officer will maintain a visible and proactive safety presence at assigned storage tank projects. Responsibilities include conducting daily jobsite inspections and safety observations; leading toolbox talks and safety meetings; reviewing JSA/JHAs; monitoring high-risk work activities; identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and behaviors; maintaining required safety records; preparing electronic reports and spreadsheets; investigating incidents and near misses; assisting with employee safety training; and ensuring corrective actions are properly documented and completed.

Essential Functions:

This position is focused on providing guidance, support, and education regarding safe work practices—not policing employees.

The Field Safety Officer must be comfortable working independently in the field while communicating regularly with project management and company leadership.

This position includes the authority and responsibility to stop work when an imminent safety hazard or serious unsafe condition exists.

Candidates must possess practical field knowledge of safety requirements associated with storage tank and industrial construction activities, including:

- Confined-space entry
- Fall protection
- Hot work and welding and cutting operations
- Respiratory protection
- Scaffolding
- Crane, lifting, and rigging operations
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Job Safety Analysis/Job Hazard Analysis (JSA/JHA)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Incident and near-miss reporting and investigation
- Emergency response procedures

Additional Duties:

Additional responsibilities or duties may be required as needed in support of company operations.

Teamwork

Teamwork is essential in this position, and the Field Safety Officer must have a positive attitude and be able to work effectively with all departments, managers, and staff.

Actively participate in Safety meetings and promote company safety culture while working closely with the safety department.

Qualifications

Minimum of five years of experience in the storage tank industry, including tank construction, repair, maintenance, or related field operations.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
Recognized Safety Officer or Safety Supervisor certification, or an equivalent credential, such as CHST, STS-C, CSHO, or another company-approved safety certification.
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial and construction safety requirements.
Proficiency with computers is mandatory.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related applications.
Ability to create, complete, maintain, and submit electronic safety reports, spreadsheets, inspection forms, incident reports, and other required documentation.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively to project locations.
Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, project managers, customers, and subcontractors.

Reporting

Reports to Field EHS Director and works with all field level foremen.
