About Pulse Pulse is Africa's leading media brand, telling the continent's stories across pop culture, sports, and business. We spotlight the people, ideas, and moments shaping modern Africa, creating content that informs, entertains, and connects millions globally. Role Overview We are seeking a seasoned and strategic PR & Storytelling Manager to architect and drive compelling narratives that elevate Pulse, partner brands, the content and cultural moments we create across Africa. This pivotal role is responsible for translating the value proposition of Pulse and our strategic client partners into stories that resonate across the continent and the global media landscape. You will lead all media relations, develop high-impact PR strategies and position Pulse as the definitive voice in African pop culture, sports and business. Key Responsibilities 1. Media Relations & PR Strategy Manage and cultivate top-tier media and journalist relationships across Africa and key international markets; pitch high-impact stories to drive consistent, quality coverage and features. Develop and execute proactive, data-driven PR strategies to significantly boost Pulse's brand visibility, reputation and strategic initiatives. Secure high-profile media coverage and publications to enhance brand visibility and strengthen the organization’s public image. Monitor media coverage and industry trends, identifying opportunities for Pulse to lead conversations and define key metrics for measuring PR success (e.g., share of voice, quality of coverage). Lead reputation monitoring, prepare rapid-response crisis communications plans and protect brand integrity during a crisis. Position Pulse leadership (CEO, Directors, Content leads) as authoritative thought leaders through strategic speaking opportunities, high-impact op-eds, and expert panel participation. 2. Strategic Storytelling & Content Development Lead and drive strategic storytelling initiatives for both Pulse and her clients, shaping and positioning compelling external narratives that enhance visibility, reputation, and commercial impact. Define overarching brand narratives, key messages, and communication frameworks that align with Pulse's voice and support major company and client initiatives. Develop compelling case studies and success stories showcasing Pulse's impact on culture, creators and brands. Collaborate closely with content and marketing teams to identify and amplify external stories, ensuring consistent messaging across all external communications and touchpoints. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field (Master's a plus). Strong experience (5+ years preferred) in PR, communications, journalism, or strategic brand storytelling, ideally within a fast-paced media or tech environment. Proven track record of crafting and executing narratives that drive measurable business or brand impact. Exceptional writing & editing skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for press releases, social media and executive communications. Deep, practical understanding of the African media landscape, digital trends, social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn) and influencer/creator ecosystems. Solid existing media relationships and a demonstrable ability to open doors immediately; comfortable pitching, negotiating exclusives and handling high-profile stakeholders. Strategic and creative thinker capable of translating complex data and insights into compelling public stories. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority projects, strict deadlines and budgets effectively. Benefits We offer a professional environment where you can truly make an impact on the African media landscape. Hybrid Work Model: Flexibility to work both remotely and from our dynamic office.
