The position requires someone who is comfortable with a 24/7 on-call schedule and can respond quickly to emergency derailment calls.

  • 40 hours guaranteed per week
  • Average of 60+ hours per week, with some weeks reaching 70 hours
  • Significant overtime available
  • 24/7 on-call availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Hours outside of Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM are paid at 1.5x overtime
  • Per diem available
  • Hotel pay for required travel
  • Layover pay when applicable
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment according to company policy and DOT regulations.
  • Drive tractor-trailers to and from job sites and inspect loads and transported machinery.
  • Verify transportation permits for overweight and oversize loads and equipment.
  • Participate in daily work planning and safety briefings.
  • Load, unload, move, and stage materials and equipment for rerailing, load adjustment/transfer, and track maintenance, repair, or new construction.
  • Assist with the assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other equipment.
  • Operate equipment according to standard procedures while following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with rigging and connecting chains, cables, and winches during derailment response.
  • Operate equipment such as cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders when qualified.
  • Perform work involving hydraulic tools, welding, cutting torches, electrical tools, and common hand tools.
  • Assist with specialty lifting, rerailing, load transfer, track maintenance/repair, grading, and railroad construction activities.
  • Continuously monitor equipment and vehicles to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness.
  • Perform and document minor equipment and vehicle service and repairs, including basic mechanical tasks such as oil changes.
  • Report more complicated mechanical issues to the Shop Manager or Foreman.
  • Assist with disassembly and loading of cranes and other equipment after job assignments.
  • Restock vehicles and equipment with necessary parts, components, and supplies.
  • Sort and properly dispose of scrap materials.
  • Assist other departments or divisions as needed to meet operational needs.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with a good driving record.
  • Basic mechanical skills for minor equipment repairs, including oil changes.
  • Experience in construction labor or a similar physically demanding role.
  • Must be comfortable operating equipment and performing physical labor.
  • Must be available 24/7 to respond to emergency service calls, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must pass required qualification tests, training, and safety programs.
  • Must be comfortable working in an emergency-response environment where quick and efficient work is required.
  • 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, including:
    • Backhoe
    • Bulldozer
    • Excavator
    • Front-end loader
    • Grapple truck
    • Rail-bound equipment
    • Tractor
    • Skid-steer loader
    • Strong preference for CDL-A drivers with experience operating manual-transmission equipment.
    • Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
