A well-established construction and maintenance company is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to take full ownership of their finance function. You will be the go-to person for all financial matters, reporting directly to management and working within a small, busy office environment. We are seeking a candidate who "knows the job inside out," possesses the maturity to manage office operations without supervision, and takes immense pride in maintaining a clean, compliant, and current set of books. Key Responsibilities Full Bookkeeping Cycle: Execute the complete accounting function through to Trial Balance, ensuring meticulous accuracy in all financial records. Statutory Compliance: Manage the end-to-end SARS e-Filing process, including the preparation and submission of VAT (VAT201) and PAYE (EMP201). Cash Flow & Ledger Management: Direct all accounts payable and receivable, perform rigorous bank reconciliations, and provide daily cash flow monitoring. Construction Financial Control: Drive job costing and project expense tracking specifically across electrical and maintenance contracts to ensure project profitability. Management Reporting: Compile comprehensive monthly management reports and maintain the fixed asset register. Audit & Year-End: Proactively prepare the year-end audit file to ensure a seamless external review process. Commercial Support: Utilise advanced Excel skills to maintain cost schedules and pricing models that support tender and quotation submissions. Office Administration: Lead all office administrative functions, serving as the central point of coordination for the business. Requirements Experience: Significant experience as a Bookkeeper, specifically within the construction, engineering, or maintenance industries. Technical Mastery: Deep, practical knowledge of bookkeeping principles—this is a "hit the ground running" role that requires immediate independence. Management Capability: Proven ability to manage office administration and processes without needing to be managed yourself. Attention to Detail: A disciplined approach to compliance and a commitment to keeping financial records up to date. Required Software Skills Xero: Advanced proficiency is essential for daily financial management. Microsoft Excel: High-level capability for cost scheduling and financial modelling. SARS e-Filing: Expert-level navigation for all statutory submissions. Sage Pastel: Proficiency in managing the full cycle through to Trial Balance.
