Financial Accountant

Supporting core financial functions within a niche short-term insurance environment, this four-month fixed-term contract position drives accurate financial management, technical accounting, and regulatory reporting. Commencing at the earliest possible date, the role ensures robust month-end processing, strict internal controls, and full alignment with IFRS 17 standards. The role involves key responsibilities across treasury management, audit co-ordination, and financial reporting, including tax compliance and budget forecasting. Operating in a collaborative space, it offers direct involvement in technical account reviews, profit commission calculations, and cross-departmental engagement. Key Responsibilities Financial Management: Prepare month-end files and review information for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to agreed deadlines. Technical Accounting: Calculate profit commissions, prepare technical accounts, and review month-end bank and provision reconciliations. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly management accounts, analyse actual versus budgeted expenses, and manage IFRS 17 input and output checks. Statutory Compliance & Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (AFS) according to IFRS 17, and manage SARS submissions (VAT, EMP201, and Tax returns) within deadlines to avoid penalties. Planning & Forecasting: Formulate forecasts and budgets, and attend to ad hoc financial requests. Treasury Supervision: Oversee and review creditors payments to ensure accurate and timely processing. Audit & Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls and document management for internal and external audits, co-operate with auditors, facilitate audit processes, and implement findings or recommendations. Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with finance colleagues, wider organisational teams, and build effective working relationships with department heads and managers. Requirements Essential Requirements Postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience within the short-term insurance industry. Strong technical background in short-term insurance. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI. English language proficiency at C1 level or higher.
