Position Summary:

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, reliability, security, and performance of REI Engineers’ IT systems. This position independently supports routine system administration needs, resolves operational issues, coordinates small IT projects and maintenance efforts, and contributes to process and system improvements within defined scope. The role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.



Core Responsibilities:

  1. Operates, monitors, and maintains assigned IT systems, infrastructure, applications, and related technology resources to support day-to-day business operations.
  2. Ensures systems remain stable, secure, reliable, and well-performing through regular maintenance, monitoring, updates, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  3. Owns day-to-day system administration tasks and routine operational issues, resolving matters independently within established procedures and defined scope.
  4. Escalates complex, cross-system, security-sensitive, or higher-risk issues to the appropriate IT leadership, vendor, or technical resource.
  5. Supports system reliability, security, and performance by following established IT standards, security protocols, backup procedures, access controls, and change management practices.
  6. Coordinates small IT projects, maintenance windows, upgrades, system improvements, and operational initiatives from planning through completion.
  7. Assists with implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of software applications, user systems, network resources, hardware, and related tools.
  8. Provides support to end users by diagnosing technical issues, explaining solutions clearly, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  9. Maintains accurate records of system changes, support activity, project updates, asset information, user access, and standard operating procedures.
  10. Identifies recurring issues, inefficiencies, or improvement opportunities and recommends practical solutions to improve IT operations.
  11. Collaborates with internal teams, vendors, managers, and employees to support business needs and resolve technology-related concerns.
  12. May guide junior staff or end users on routine tasks, standard procedures, troubleshooting steps, and proper use of IT systems.
  13. Protects confidential company, employee, client, and system information through responsible handling of data and adherence to company policies.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Working knowledge of system administration, IT infrastructure, software applications, hardware, networking, and end-user support.
  2. Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve routine operational and technical issues.
  3. Sound judgment and ability to determine when escalation is appropriate.
  4. Strong understanding of system reliability, security, performance, access control, and data protection practices.
  5. Ability to coordinate small projects, maintenance efforts, upgrades, and system improvements.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  7. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with vendors, managers, and employees.
  9. Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive company, employee, client, and system information.
  10. Demonstrated ownership, follow-through, and accountability for assigned responsibilities.





Education and Work Experience:

  1. Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  2. 3–5 years of progressive experience in IT support, systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related technology role preferred.
  3. Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Windows environments, user account administration, endpoint management, networking, security tools, backups, and business applications preferred.
  4. Experience supporting users across multiple locations or in a preferred professional services environment.
  5. Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft, Azure, Cisco, or similar certifications are a plus.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  1. Sitting for extended periods while using computer equipment, including a desktop or laptop computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone.
  2. Walking, standing, bending, lifting, or moving equipment as needed in an office environment.
  3. Ability to lift and move computer equipment, monitors, printers, peripherals, or related items as needed.
  4. Ability to travel by car to other office locations or job sites as needed.
  5. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required for system maintenance, upgrades, outages, or emergency support.



Performance Expectations:

The successful Systems Administrator takes ownership of day-to-day IT operations, resolves routine issues independently, communicates clearly, and reliably delivers small improvements or projects. This position is expected to maintain stable, secure, and well-performing systems while escalating appropriately and contributing to continued operational efficiency.
