Job Title
Physical, Occupational Therapy or Speech- Language Pathologist
Hours
Part-time; one to two days per week

Position Summary
The therapist will provide evaluation and therapy treatment services using (HPOT) hippotherapy principals when appropriate for equine-assisted therapy for children, adults, and veterans with physical, cognitive, emotional, and developmental disabilities. This role works collaboratively with instructors, volunteers, caregivers, staff, and equine to create safe, effective, and engaging therapy sessions within a therapeutic riding environment.

Qualifications
- Current Physical, Occupational, or Speech Pathologist Therapy license in the state of Texas
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Current liability insurance
- Completion of American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level 1 preferred
- PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) certification a plus, or willingness to work under the supervision of a PATH Intl. Certified Instructor
- Knowledge of equine-assisted services and hippotherapy practices
- Experience working with children and adults with disabilities
- Equine experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide direct hippotherapy and/or clinic-based therapy treatments using HPOT principles
- Evaluate new participants for therapy services and program placement
- Complete re-evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes as assigned
- Collaborate with instructors, volunteers, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members to support participant goals
- Maintain all required certifications, licensure, insurance, and continuing education requirements
- Participate in staff training and clinical education opportunities, including supervision of interns when applicable
- Ensure safety standards are followed during all equine-assisted activities
- Assist in maintaining a positive, professional, and inclusive environment for participants and families
Core Competencies
- Proficient email, documentation, and computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds using proper body mechanics
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remain on feet for extended periods
- Ability to safely assist with mounting and dismounting procedures
- Ability to walk or jog beside a horse during sessions as needed
- Professional communication with clients, families, volunteers, and staff
- Strong understanding of participant safety and risk management practices
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics standards
Preferred Certifications
- PATH Intl. CTRI certification
- American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) certification or Hippotherapy Clinical Specialty (HPCS) credential preferred
