Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) at SAIT offers a wide range of programs designed to support lifelong learning, career advancement (through reskilling and upskilling) and customized talent development solutions for corporations. Join a team passionate about building lifelong learning opportunities that help people in Calgary and around the globe navigate the changing world of work.
The Role
We are currently looking to grow our pool of Power Engineering Instructors to facilitate daytime in-person deliveries of 4th Class and 5th Class Power Engineering Labs. These labs typically run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and are typically offered consistently over the Fall and Winter semesters (September through April)*. Our 5th Class (100-hour) lab typically runs 2.5 weeks in length, while our 4th Class (200-hour) lab typically runs 5 weeks in length. These courses are built to suit a diverse learner population, ranging from students upgrading foreign credentials to those changing careers mid-life. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged.
*Note: We are currently building our talent pool for potential contracts during the 2026-2027 Academic Year. This is a casual contract. Hours are not guaranteed; candidates who are successful in joining the pool will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced Power Engineering professional who values flexibility and enjoys contributing to the development of future engineers. This role is well‑suited to individuals who can commit to full‑time availability during key periods of the academic year while appreciating the freedom of a casual contract outside those times.
The successful candidate will bring:
Industry Experience: Practical, hands‑on knowledge of Power Engineering operations, safety procedures, and equipment.
Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work closely with fellow instructors and support staff in fostering a safe, engaging, and effective learning environment.
Strong Communication Skills: Clear, professional communication when guiding students, coordinating with colleagues, and supporting lab activities.
Flexibility: Comfort working on a yearly casual schedule without benefits, with availability to take on full‑time hours during designated instructional periods.
Student‑Centered Approach: A genuine interest in mentoring and supporting learners as they build technical competence and confidence.
Adaptability and Initiative: Willingness to support evolving program needs, new technologies, and innovative teaching approaches.
