The Communications Coordinator is responsible for crafting engaging content that expands the reach and awareness of Second Harvest’s brand. With a focus on writing, this role will support the development and execution of a wide range of communications activities, ensuring our organization’s voice is consistent and compelling across all platforms.
We are looking for a polished and passionate storyteller, who is savvy with both established and emerging digital content platforms.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications department in the planning, development and implementation of communications strategies.
- Plan, draft and deliver captivating communications pieces such as newsletters, presentations, proposal decks and reports.
- Support senior staff with day-to-day internal and external communications, ensuring clarity and consistency.
- Research and gather relevant information to effectively respond to media inquiries.
- Craft compelling digital communications, including social media posts, blogs and emails, to engage our audience.
- Maintain a unified and authentic brand voice across all channels, adhering to established guidelines and standards.
- Work collaboratively across the organization to meet communication needs and achieve brand goals.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop relevant SEO content that enhances our online presence.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of communication deliverables for events.
- Support in the creation and maintenance of the annual communications calendar.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to strategically channel communication plans for maximum impact, staying current with best practices, technologies and trends.
- Respond to inquiries from individuals, journalists and other organizations, as required.
- Gather information and data to support spokespeople in media interviews.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

- Communicator: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent copywriting and copyediting skills. Able to create, curate, and deliver compelling content across multiple channels.
- Creative Thinker: Enjoy identifying innovative ways to reach audiences and expressing ideas in team settings.
- Collaborative: A positive, collaborative working style. Highly developed interpersonal skills including diplomacy.
- A Continuous Learner: constant change motivates you to adapt and grow.
- Bilingualism (English and French) would be considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated communications success, preferably in non-profit or journalism sectors.
- Highly organized with strong project management and time management skills. We appreciate attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- Experience with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop considered beneficial but not essential. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies is valued.
