Referral Specialist - Family Medicine - Fort Pierce

Position Summary

The Referral Specialist at Soma Medical Center is responsible for coordinating and managing patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and external healthcare providers. This role ensures a seamless referral process, supports continuity of care, and maintains compliance with insurance and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering excellent patient service.

Key Responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing patient referrals in a timely and accurate manner
• Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and authorization requirements
• Obtain pre-authorizations and referrals as required by insurance providers
• Schedule appointments with specialists and ancillary service providers
• Communicate referral details clearly to patients, including preparation instructions and documentation needed
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date referral records in the electronic health record (EHR) system
• Follow up on pending referrals and ensure completion of services
• Coordinate with physicians, medical staff, and external offices to ensure continuity of care
• Address patient inquiries regarding referral status and assist with problem resolution
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations
