Compensation: $1,400–$2,000/month

About the Company
Our client is a growing real estate development firm managing multiple investment projects and commercial/residential assets. To strengthen internal financial operations, the company is bringing its bookkeeping functions in-house. They are seeking a meticulous, self-directed Bookkeeper to clean up existing financial records and take long-term ownership of day-to-day accounting.
Position Summary
This position focuses on historical bookkeeping cleanup and account reconciliation across multiple real estate development projects. Once a clean, scalable financial foundation is established and company growth continues, managing ongoing bookkeeping, rent collection tracking, and project-level reporting.
Note: This is an internal accounting position focused exclusively on the firm's own properties and projects—not an agency or client-facing role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Historical Cleanup & Account Reconciliation (Initial Focus)
- Audit existing QuickBooks records to identify and correct missing, duplicate, or miscategorized entries.
- Perform historical bank, credit card, and financial account reconciliations.
- Restructure and clean up the chart of accounts to align with specific real estate developments.
- Establish consistent categorization and record-keeping workflows moving forward.
2. Project-Based Financial Tracking
- Track income, development costs, and operating expenses distinctly across multiple real estate projects.
- Ensure proper cost allocation to specific properties, cost centers, or entities.
- Maintain organized digital records of all supporting invoices, receipts, and project documents.
3. Rent Collection & Expense Management
- Record, monitor, and reconcile rental income against bank deposits.
- Identify late, missing, or improperly recorded tenant payments.
- Manage recurring vendor payables, verify coding, and maintain accurate expense records.
4. Financial Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare basic monthly and project-level financial reports (P&L, cash flow support) for leadership.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Liaise with external CPAs and tax advisors during audit or filing seasons.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience: 2–5 years of professional bookkeeping or accounting support experience.
- Software: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and intermediate/advanced Excel or Google Sheets.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience performing bank/credit card reconciliations, entry categorization, and chart-of-accounts management.
- Problem Solving: Strong ability to audit messy books, investigate discrepancies, and establish clean workflows independently.
- Availability: Reliable availability during U.S. Eastern Time business hours.
- Communication: Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred:
- Direct experience in real estate development, property management, construction, or real estate investment accounting.
- Hands-on experience doing historical QuickBooks cleanups.
- Familiarity with project-based cost accounting, job costing, or tracking multi-entity portfolios.
