Now Brewing – Engineer, Senior – #tobeapartner From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others. Are you driven to build reliable software that connects in-store systems with the cloud? Do you enjoy solving complex engineering problems across .NET/C#, edge devices, and cloud platforms? Are you excited to deliver secure, resilient technology that continues to perform in distributed store environments? If your answer is yes, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Join us to build the software foundation that powers in-store and drive-through experiences. You will work across edge and cloud environments, creating dependable .NET services that connect devices, process data close to where it is generated, and integrate securely with enterprise cloud platforms. You will be part of a team that values practical innovation, operational excellence, and strong engineering craftsmanship. As a Senior Engineer, you will: * Design and develop secure, scalable services using C# and modern .NET for in-store edge and cloud environments * Build resilient edge applications that can operate reliably with intermittent connectivity and synchronize data with cloud services. * Create and maintain APIs, event-driven integrations, and messaging patterns that connect store devices, edge services, and enterprise platforms. * Design for performance, availability, scalability, security, observability, and safe recovery across distributed systems. * Improve existing code for maintainability, testability, resource efficiency, and reliable operation on edge hardware. * Develop automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end tests and contribute to high-quality code reviews. * Build and improve CI/CD pipelines for repeatable cloud deployments and controlled software distribution to edge environments. * Implement telemetry, logging, metrics, and alerting to monitor system health and diagnose issues across stores and cloud services. * Troubleshoot production issues, lead root cause analysis, and deliver durable corrective actions. * Document architecture, technical designs, operational workflows, deployment processes, and support procedures. * Shape technical requirements, architecture decisions, and engineering standards in partnership with product, platform, security, and operations teams. * Mentor engineers and promote ownership, curiosity, continuous learning, and engineering excellence. We’d love to hear from people with: * Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and common design patterns. * 5+ years of software engineering experience, including strong hands-on development with C# and modern .NET. * 3+ years of experience building cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure; experience with AWS or another major cloud platform is also valuable. * Experience designing distributed systems that span edge locations and cloud services, including offline operation, synchronization, retry, caching, and failure recovery patterns. * Hands-on experience with ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, background services, microservices, and event-driven or message-based architectures. * Experience with Azure services such as App Service, Functions, Container Apps or AKS, Service Bus, Event Hubs, IoT Hub, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, or equivalent technologies. * Experience developing or supporting software deployed to edge devices, store servers, gateways, kiosks, or similar distributed hardware environments. * Understanding of edge-to-cloud security, including device identity, certificate and secret management, encryption, authentication, authorization, and secure software updates. * Proficiency with relational and NoSQL data stores such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SQLite, or Cosmos DB. * Experience with containerization and infrastructure as code using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Bicep, Terraform, or similar technologies. * Experience with CI/CD and automation tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms. * Experience with observability practices and tools for centralized logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting. * Proven ability to design scalable, performant, maintainable, and secure production systems in a collaborative engineering environment. * Experience integrating with peripherals, displays, printers, point-of-sale systems, or other in-store technology is preferred but not required. As a Starbucks partner, you (and your family) will have access to medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, and other voluntary insurance benefits. Partners have access to short-term and long-term disability, paid parental leave, family expansion reimbursement, paid vacation from date of hire*, sick time (accrued at 1 hour for every 25 hours worked), eight paid holidays, and two personal days per year. Additionally, Starbucks offers 100% upfront tuition coverage for a first-time bachelor’s degree through Arizona State University’s online program via the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, student loan management resources, and access to other educational opportunities. You will also have access to backup care and DACA reimbursement. Starbucks will comply with any applicable state and local laws regarding employee leave benefits, including, but not limited to providing time off pursuant to the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, and in accordance with its plans and policies. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
