## Now Brewing – Senior Manager, International Tax Planning! #tobeapartner
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company—one that not only celebrated coffee and its rich tradition, but also brought people a sense of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others. Starbucks' success has always been deeply rooted in our values, our culture, and our commitment to creating a positive impact for our partners, customers, and communities.
As a Senior Manager, International Tax Planning, you will play a critical role in shaping Starbucks' global tax strategy and supporting enterprise-wide business initiatives. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders, finance partners, legal teams, treasury, accounting, and transfer pricing professionals to evaluate and implement tax-efficient solutions that support business growth, operational transformation, and shareholder value.
This role requires deep technical expertise in U.S. international tax, strong analytical and modeling skills, and experience performing value chain analyses to support business transformations, operating model changes, intellectual property planning, legal entity restructurings, and strategic transactions.
## As a Senior Manager, International Tax Planning, you will...
### Leadership
· Lead complex international tax projects that support Starbucks' strategic business objectives.
· Mentor and develop tax professionals while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.
· Influence business decisions by providing practical, technically sound solutions to complex tax issues.
· Build strong partnerships across Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Legal, Supply Chain, Transfer Pricing, and business leadership teams.
### International Tax Strategy and Planning
· Evaluate and develop tax-efficient structures for market expansions, supply chain transformations, financing transactions, and global operating model changes.
· Provide technical analysis and strategic recommendations related to U.S. international tax matters, including foreign tax credits, Subpart F, GILTI, BEAT, foreign disregarded entities, withholding taxes, hybrid arrangements, earnings repatriation, and OECD Pillar Two developments.
· Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess the impact on Starbucks' global tax profile.
· Partner with external advisors and internal stakeholders to identify and implement sustainable planning opportunities.
### Value Chain and Business Model Analysis
· Lead value chain analyses to identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency while aligning with business operations and transfer pricing principles.
· Assess tax implications of operating model changes, supply chain transformations, digital initiatives, intellectual property ownership structures, and legal entity rationalization projects.
· Collaborate with transfer pricing and business teams to evaluate value creation, intercompany arrangements, and business restructuring initiatives.
· Develop planning recommendations that balance business objectives, operational realities, and tax considerations.
### Cross-Functional Business Partnership
· Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on strategic initiatives and emerging business models.
· Partner with Treasury, Legal, Accounting, Revenue Growth Management, Supply Chain, and Corporate Development teams to assess tax implications of enterprise initiatives and business changes.
· Advise cross-functional teams on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, licensing arrangements, and market entries from planning through implementation.
· Translate complex technical tax concepts into practical business recommendations.
### Technical Excellence and Governance
· Develop, document, and support technical tax positions for significant transactions and planning strategies.
· Assess financial statement implications under ASC 740 and partner with Accounting to ensure proper reporting of tax impacts.
· Support tax controversy matters and assist with defending tax positions during audits and examinations.
· Coordinate with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities on complex international tax matters.
## We'd love to hear from people with:
### Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field.
· 7+ years of progressive experience in international tax planning, transfer pricing, global tax strategy, or related disciplines in a multinational corporation, public accounting firm, law firm, or a combination thereof.
· Deep technical knowledge of U.S. international tax provisions, including Subpart F, NCTI, BEAT, and foreign tax credit rules, with experience applying them in a planning context rather than in compliance alone.
· Working knowledge of Subchapter C as it applies to multinational groups, including earnings and profits, stock basis, distributions, and internal reorganizations.
