Job Summary The City of St. Peters is seeking a motivated Police Cadet to gain practical experience and exposure to law enforcement operations while supporting the St. Peters Police Department. This non-sworn position provides opportunities to work alongside sworn and civilian personnel in areas such as Records, Dispatch, Corrections, Patrol, and Community Relations. Assignments may rotate to provide a well-rounded understanding of department operations and help prepare candidates for future opportunities within the department.

Normal Shift: Hours vary based on operational needs and may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This part-time position typically works 20-30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and operational support within assigned Police Department divisions.
  • Assist with records management, filing, data entry, report preparation, and other clerical duties.
  • Support department training activities by serving as a role player and assisting with equipment setup and logistics.
  • Assist with community engagement events and crime prevention programs.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and assist with maintaining department equipment and facilities.
  • Assist with booking, fingerprinting, tow releases, and other authorized non-sworn activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling law enforcement records and sensitive information.
  • Follow department policies, procedures, safety standards, and City personnel policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen or lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
  • If a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, must have received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled in high school must graduate or obtain a GED while serving as a Police Cadet. If not enrolled, must have a high school degree or GED.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully pass a police background investigation.
  • No prior law enforcement experience is required.

Equipment/Vehicles (May include but is not limited to the following)

Use standard office equipment, City-issued uniforms and identification, computers, department vehicles (when authorized), radios (when authorized), and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.

Uniform Requirement

If a department-issued uniform is provided, Police Cadets are required to wear it as directed and maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance in accordance with department policies and grooming standards while on duty.

Job Location

City facilities, Police Department facilities, community event locations, police training facilities, and other locations as required for assigned duties.
