AI Engineer

Suzy is  hiring an AI Engineer who leads through systems thinking, AI-first execution, and shipping real things. This is an individual contributor role. You lead through code, architecture, and the quality bar you set by example.

You will own how AI shows up in the product our clients actually use. The focus is the client-facing product; in practice your talents get pulled toward whatever AI problem matters most, internal or client-facing — including building a software factory that can take an idea from concept to production with zero human intervention. Scope includes ownership of the latency, cost, and reliability of the AI systems you build, not just whether they work.

• 7+ years of engineering experience, including time as the person others came to for the hardest architectural questions

• Genuine fluency with AI-native development: you know the difference between using Claude to autocomplete and running a multi-agent workflow. You have opinions on prompt design, context window management, agent orchestration patterns, and when to use a subagent vs. a tool

• Built evaluation infrastructure — harnesses that measure whether an AI system is right, not just whether it runs. Here, wrong isn't a crash — it's a fluent, plausible insight a brand acts on and shouldn't have

• Experience building personalized, agent-driven experiences for end users — you understand what it takes to tailor an AI system's behavior to an individual user's context, not just ship internal tooling

• Strong systems instincts: you think about blast radius before you write the PR, catch the design problem before it becomes a production incident, and make tradeoffs explicitly

• Full-stack capable, with a natural habitat in backend services, data flows, and infrastructure decisions. Stack is primarily Node.js and Next.js, with Python for heavy data work

• Communication that matches your technical ability: clear architecture decision records, precise PR feedback, and the ability to explain a complex system to a non-engineer without dumbing it down

• You've operated in an environment where AI tools are the primary means of production, not a productivity hack

• You've architected systems with agents as first-class consumers

• You think about agent safety, context management, and tool design the same way a good systems engineer thinks about API contracts and failure modes

• You've shipped multi-agent workflows in production

• The target base compensation for this role is $175,000 - $225,000 / yr.
