The Woodyard Area Process Manager is responsible for the Woodyard and purchased chips equipment along with all systems needed to supply chips to the Digester. This position oversees a department of approximately thirty-one (31) people. The Woodyard Area Manager’s role is to provide leadership to the Woodyard team to achieve the mill and department objectives, and facilitate sound business decisions. The Woodyard Area Manager is responsible for implementing systems for continuous improvement and for managing the Woodyard team in a goal-oriented environment to deliver and exceed target results in the areas of safety, engagement, cost, reliability and quality. This position is part of the leadership team for the Fibers department, and reports to the Pulp Business Unit Manager.
Position Requirements:
The Woodyard Area Process Manager will be accountable for the following primary job responsibilities:
Assure a safe and highly motivated workforce by demonstrating leadership in safety and engagement
Lead Ticonderoga to an accident and injury-free work environment through leadership by example, modeling safe behavior, and supporting established safety initiatives
Provide leadership, clear direction, and develop personal accountability to maintain a satisfactory work environment for all employees. Treat each employee with respect and dignity, and hold others to the same standard
Manage the performance and development of members by setting clear expectations and standards of performance and identifying and providing the necessary skill development training
Coach, manage, lead, support and develop approximately 31 production employees in the Woodyard
Establish Work Systems to reliably run the Woodyard to meet or exceed production and cost objectives
Prioritize maintenance work based on operations and reliability needs and coordinate cycle outages and annual outages.
Ensure the Global Manufacturing Training Initiative training systems are in place and utilize to develop the workforce
Develop operating strategy working with Fiber Supply
Develop annual outage and repair job for the Woodyard
Support pulp and caustic shutdown activities as needed by the department
Continuously improve the operation by staying current with new technologies, implementing best practices, identifying non-value added elements and modeling continuous process improvement
Support the goals and initiatives of all Businesses supported by the Mill
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education/experience combination is required, with five years of mill manufacturing experience in Woodyard or Pulp Mill operations preferred.
Qualified candidates should possess knowledge of the Woodyard area operations and processes. This includes knowledge of maintenance management principles, including but not limited to precision maintenance, preventative maintenance, root cause failure analysis, shutdown and contingency planning, and computer based maintenance work systems and a desire to work with maintenance as a team. Candidates should have the talent to secure, display, communicate, evaluate and analyze data. Candidate should understand the use of key metrics to help manage the overall operations.
Candidates for this position must also possess a clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks, an understanding of team concepts, a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as an established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures. Basic meeting, facilitation, and listening skills, along with an established ability to manage change and conflict are required. Qualified candidates should have good interpersonal skills and have a developed competency to influence others. A strong propensity to lead and manage safety and support established safety initiatives in the pursuit of an accident free work environment is a requirement. The capability to set a vision and mission, develop and implement systems, and develop guiding principles is required of this position.
The position level (PG) for Woodyard Area Process Manager can range between 12 and 13, commensurate with experience.
