Overview
The position of Construction Labourer involves performing tasks related to physical labour on building and heavy construction projects. Responsibilities include operating various hand and power tools, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up debris, and handling hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools, including construction and testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, ammeters, test lamps)
- Load and unload construction materials; distribute tools and equipment according to project plans
- Prepare and clean construction sites to eliminate hazards and ensure safety compliance
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact or level earth to grade specifications
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, braces, traffic barricades, and other temporary structures
- Assist skilled trades such as carpenters and masons as required
- Measure, mark, or record layouts and distances for construction work
- Set or dismantle forms for concrete work; align or seal structural components (e.g., concrete walls, pipes)
- Oversee general building maintenance, cleaning, and gardening as needed
- Control traffic around work zones and follow site-specific safety procedures
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, or specifications
- Perform routine site cleanup and ensure proper handling of debris and hazardous materials such as asbestos or lead
- Adhere to all Health & Safety standards and procedures
Requirements:
- Experience in construction, maintenance, or general labor
- Skilled in using hand and power tools
- Able to lift, carry, and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic ability to read plans and follow instructions
- Familiar with site safety practices and PPE use
- Able to assist skilled trades (carpenters, masons, etc.)
- Willing to work across multiple sites (Orchid Development Ltd, Cricket Square, The Brasserie)
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently or in a team
Applicants must provide two verifiable references and a valid police clearance issued within the past six months. The successful candidate will be required to work 45 hours per week, including evening shifts and weekends.
