About the Role

As the International Tax Director you will be a key leader in our international tax function. Your role will involve international tax planning and oversight of the international tax components of the U.S. federal income tax return, and managing multiple other U.S. and foreign compliance and reporting requirements.

You will be in a hybrid remote/in-office position where you will work out of our NYC headquarters 3 days per week reporting to the Vice President, Tax and managing a team of two.

Responsibilities

  • Identify international tax issues, perform technical tax research and participate in hands-on work on multiple international tax projects, including modeling impacts of tax initiatives and developments and legal structure planning.
  • Manage permanent establishment risks, working with Legal, HR, International Payroll, Global Mobility and other departments within the Company to mitigate risks and set up appropriate international structures, documentation and processes.
  • Partner with foreign tax advisors in connection with foreign country tax planning and compliance, including the filing of foreign income tax returns.
  • Prepare international tax compliance calculations and documentation for the U.S. federal income tax return. This includes Forms 1118, 5471, 8858, and 8993. Additionally, you will support the preparation or review of other documentation satisfying U.S. reporting requirements, such as Forms 1042.
  • Prepare country-by-country reports concerning foreign operations and manage external advisors' preparation of local country files.
  • Manage the preparation of transfer pricing reports and related documentation by external advisors. Contribute to hands-on preparation, including drafting, of internal documentation, such as services agreements and secondment documentation. Coordinate with other Company departments, such as Legal and Accounting.
  • Oversee foreign indirect tax registration and compliance, including managing the indirect tax compliance process. Collaborate with external advisors to monitor developments in VAT, GST, and digital services taxes.
  • Manage international tax aspects of U.S. tax audit matters and work with external advisors to manage international tax audits.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the following listed areas of international tax, including experience in international tax planning and experience in a public accounting firm.
  • Extensive technical tax knowledge and advisory experience that enables you to work independently and to deliver sound recommendations that take into account tax, legal and business side risks and benefits.
  • Knowledge of check-the-box election planning and permanent establishment issues required; knowledge of transfer pricing and VAT.
  • Experience in international tax reporting and compliance, including FDII, GILTI and foreign tax credit calculations
  • Assume ownership of projects, seek process improvements, and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • An advanced degree in taxation or certification (in Taxation or CPA or JD)

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$180,000$200,000 USD

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
