About the Role: Poni Marine is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) to join our team under a manpower supply project dedicated to our premier marine client. In this role, you will be operationally accountable to the Client's Engineer on-site and will play a critical role in supporting Level 3 and Level 4 maintenance, routine overhauls, and corrective repair works across various mechanical systems, auxiliary machinery, and vessel refit periods. Key Responsibilities: Maintenance Execution: Assist the primary Engineer in executing Level 3 and Level 4 maintenance, scheduled overhauls, and urgent breakdown/corrective repairs on mechanical and propulsion systems. Preventive Maintenance: Prevent unexpected system failures by routinely inspecting, servicing, and replacing defective mechanical components according to preventive maintenance schedules. Troubleshooting & Rectification: Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults to ensure operational safety and efficiency. Perform defect rectifications during critical maintenance cycles, including base maintenance, defect essential docking, afloat maintenance, and 2-year/4-year refit periods. System Testing: Conduct operational and compliance tests on pumps, valves, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery to guarantee full functionality before systems return to service. Data & Documentation: Accurately record, compile, and maintain all test data, inspection logs, and technical reports generated during maintenance activities. Installation & Quality Assurance: Install mechanical components for engines, distribution networks, and machinery, ensuring all work meets strict economic, safety, and quality standards. Operational Escalation: Proactively monitor workshop or site operations and promptly report any technical shortcomings, resource gaps, or safety hazards to the Engineer or Head of Workshop. Requirements Education & Qualifications: A recognized Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, OR Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec) / National Technical Education Certificate (NTec) in a mechanical-related field. Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering or heavy machinery maintenance. Structured internship experience or hands-on technical project backgrounds within marine, shipyard, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors will be highly regarded. Technical Competencies & Skills: Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical systems, specifically marine propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Proven technical proficiency in fault-finding, troubleshooting, and overhauling pumps, valves, and rotating equipment. Familiarity with industry-standard engineering specifications, technical drawings, and strict safety regulations. Sharp problem-solving capabilities with a natural ability to multitask and manage time under tight docking/refit schedules. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal presence, and clear communication skills for operating within cross-functional teams. Preferred Certifications: Standard industry Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) certifications (e.g., OSHA, site safety passports, or marine-specific safety training). Specific technical certifications in pump overhauling, hydraulics, or specialized propulsion systems are a major advantage.
