Position Summary
The Community Worker supports community engagement, advocacy initiatives, food security and Community Kitchen programming, outreach, and general administrative operations. This role is ideal for a student with a strong interest in community development, advocacy, research, program implementation and promotion
Key Responsibilities
- Provides support within an the The Stops Advocacy Drop In setting. Assist Community Members with completing necessary government forms such as Housing, CPP, Disability, Immigration etc.
- Conducts participatory survey with community members to gather input for advocacy priorities.
- Research government programs, community trends, and policy changes that may impact residents
- Maintaining organized digital records for the Advocacy Office, supporting documentation and participant tracking
- Support the planning, setup, and facilitation of educational workshops, and Community Kitchen sessions.
- Stock, sort, pack, and distribute food hampers and essential goods for the Food Hamper (Health Beginnings) Program
- Participate in the implementation of a monthly outreach strategy, tracking efforts and results. Creation of promotional and educational material for the community (digital and text copy) utilizing effective materials and methods to reach all groups from diverse backgrounds
- Assist in coordinating and delivering food security–related events
- Organize files and prepare as digital records
- Support documentation, participant tracking, and general administrative tasks.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to planning and program discussions.
Qualifications
- Meets all Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements.
- Ideal candidate enrolled in Social Work, Community Development, Health Promotion, Public Health, Education, Sociology, or a related field.
- Experience in community outreach, program planning , event coordination
- Ability to create clear and engaging outreach materials both online and in person
- Experience and knowledge of working with marginalized communities. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication, initiative and organizational abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to anti racism and anti oppression principles
