The Town of Windsor is seeking a collaborative, experienced, and community-minded professional to join our team as the Library Director. Our Community:
A community of 29,500 residents, Windsor is a diverse and welcoming community. Settled in 1633, Windsor sits at the confluence of the Farmington and Connecticut Rivers and is located just north of Hartford, CT, the State’s capital city. In addition to being in close proximity to a wide range of cultural and historic attractions, Windsor is an important regional employment center in New England’s Knowledge Corridor; it is located on I-91 and adjoins Bradley International Airport. The Town is also served by public transit and commuter rail.
The Position:
As the Library Director, this position performs complex supervisory, administrative, technical, and professional work in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising the Town’s library programs and services. The Library Director provides leadership for library operations and staff while working closely with Town leadership, the Library Advisory Board, community organizations, schools, and residents to ensure the library continues to meet the needs of the community.

Lead the planning, development, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of library programs, services, activities, and operations, ensuring they respond to evolving community needs.

Develop, implement, and maintain the library’s master plan, goals, policies, procedures, and long-range initiatives; provide professional advice and recommendations to the Town Manager and Library Advisory Board.

Plan, manage, and monitor the library budget and resources, including personnel, materials, technology, facilities, revenues, expenditures, fundraising, grants, and donations.

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff; establish assignments, schedules, procedures, and workloads that support effective and efficient operations.

Oversee library collections, reference and technical services, interlibrary loan, technology and automation, digital resources, and the selection, evaluation, and disposition of materials.

Develop and oversee library programs, special events, outreach, communications, and marketing efforts, using community partnerships and a variety of communication channels to promote library services.

Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, schools, Town departments, civic and community organizations, other libraries, professional networks, and regional partners, representing the library within the community.

Oversee library facilities, equipment, and technology, including maintenance, repairs, improvements, cost estimates, and facility projects; identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Monitor trends and best practices in the library profession; gather and analyze information, prepare reports and recommendations, participate in professional and community activities, and plan for the future of library services.

Demonstrate strong budget management, administrative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with sound judgment, initiative, creativity, and attention to detail.

Have experience recruiting, supervising, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff and fostering a positive, effective, and service-oriented workplace.

Understand current public library trends, technologies, services, and best practices, with experience using library technology, automation systems, digital resources, social media, and other tools that support modern library services.

Have the ability to build productive partnerships and work effectively with Town officials, boards and commissions, schools, community organizations, professional organizations, staff, and the general public while managing multiple priorities and projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program and progressively responsible experience in public library administration, including supervisory experience; OR
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Salary and Benefits:
The starting salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
