The Manager, Purchasing plays a crucial role in delivering our mission and achieving our goals. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring proper stocking levels at all locations while working to maintain relationships with vendors and provide quality products for customers. You will be responsible for procurement, vendor relations, forecasting and cost tracking. The ideal candidate will have experience negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels and ensuring timely delivery of equipment, parts and supplies. This person will also be instrumental in the coaching, mentoring, and development of the purchasing team.
This position will serve the 2J Supply Division located in Dayton, OH.
Oversee the execution of Purchasing and Inventory plan while actively exploring ways to improve upon the plan
Coordinate with Branch and Territory Managers to determine and manage inventory needs.
Ensure that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications.
Responsible for maintaining sufficient levels of inventory to meet customer demand while achieving company inventory turnover objectives
Oversee the collection, return, sale or disposal of surplus stock
Ownership of certain buy-lines to maintain and oversee
Maintain the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation
Prepare cost estimates and manage budgets.
Determine Purchasing Agent goals and objectives and ensures understanding of approved objectives by team members
Work with Purchasing Agents on negotiations with suppliers on some conflicts, questions on prices, deliveries and specifications
Coach, mentor, develop, support and manage Purchasing Agents
Works with Sales and Marketing on new or discontinued product lines or line items
Promote a Gung Ho culture that encourages top performance and high morale
Occasional travel
- Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- 7+ years of purchasing experience
- Experience purchasing in a wholesale/manufacturing environment
- HVAC industry experience a plus
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Knowledge of Prophet 21 or other purchasing related software
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
