LABORATORY TECHNICIAN-CAS

General Responsibilities:
To prepare various reagents, solutions, growth media and microbial cultures for instructional laboratories at the UAB College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). To assemble materials for instructional laboratories and maintain records and files for laboratory management.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
1.    Under the direction of the supervisor, aids in chemical waste disposal for teaching labs and oversees safety inspections for laboratories as assigned. 
2.    Coordinates and manages undergraduate employees to aid in preparing chemicals and reagents for instructional labs as assigned. 
3.    Orders reagents and supplies for instructional labs and other needs. 
4.    Receives incoming supply orders; labels and dates, all appropriate supplies, stores at proper temperature, checks expiration dates and rotate stock as needed. 
5.    Maintains records and files for laboratory management. Maintains laboratory processing area, equipment and instrumentation according to regulatory guidelines and laboratory standard operating procedures.  
6.    Writes and submits incident reports for chemical spills and accidents that occur in research and instructional laboratories.
7.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Pay Range:  $15.00 – $21.15 
 

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or a related field. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
