SUMMARY
The Food Security & Community Support Assistant supports the delivery of food security and food sovereignty programs by performing daily tasks such as food preparation and distribution, inventory management, and program setup. The role helps ensure food programs, community events, and activities are organized, maintained, and delivered safely and efficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support day-to-day food security and food sovereignty programming
- Assist with food hub operations, including produce displays, retail sales, and customer service
- Organize and manage inventory, supplies, tools, and program materials
- Prepare, package, and distribute food and produce
- Support workshops, community events, and educational activities, including setup and cleanup
- Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming program, kitchen, and storage spaces
- Engage with community members in a positive and respectful manner
- Work independently to support daily operations when supervisors are off-site
- Contribute to a respectful and team-oriented work environment
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe workplace culture

- Perform other duties as relevant to the role.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Organized and able to mange multiple tasks in a hands-on environment
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Friendly, reliable , and able to work well with others.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with community work
- Ability to work in a fast paced, hands on environment
ASSETS
- Experience in retail, customer service, or community programming is an asset
- Interest in food security, food sovereignty, gardening, agriculture, or community-based work
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Ability to work flexible hours, including daytime, evenings, and occasional weekends based on program needs
- Experience with gardening, markets, food handling, or agriculture is considered an asset
- Knowledge of basic food safety and safe handling practices is an asset
- First Aid certification is an asset, but not required
CONDITIONS of EMPLOYMENT
- Current Criminal background check/Vulnerable sector check
- Valid driver's licenced may be required
- Travel as required.
- Overtime, as required.
