At the national level, UNICEF supports the Government of Algeria through development-oriented programmes aimed at strengthening systems, policies and services for children, particularly in the areas of health, education, child protection, social policy and adolescent development.
In parallel, UNICEF leads and supports a protracted humanitarian response in Tindouf, delivering life saving assistance and resilience-building interventions for Sahrawi refugee children and families, in close coordination with UN agencies, national partners and humanitarian actors.
The humanitarian context in Tindouf presents specific operational challenges, including remote field locations, complex logistics, constrained infrastructure, and the need for strong compliance with humanitarian principles, risk management, and accountability to affected populations.
Within this context, the Operations function plays a critical role in enabling UNICEF to deliver results for children effectively, efficiently and accountably, ensuring that operational systems are robust, adaptable and fit for purpose across both development and humanitarian settings.
Purpose:
The purpose of this internship is to:
- Provide hands-on experience in ICT support within a UN environment.
- Strengthen ICT service delivery in the country office.
- Support Innovation, Digital Transformation and Operational Efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the ICT Associate/Specialist, the intern will:
IT Helpdek and User Support
- Provide first-level technical support to staff (hardware, software, printers, connectivity issues)
- Assist in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IT equipment
- Support onboarding/offboarding of staff (account setup, system access)
Systems and Network Support
- Assist in monitoring network performance and connectivity
- Support the maintenance of LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure
- Help manage user accounts and permissions (Active Directory, email systems)
Digital Tools and Applications
- Support use of Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, OneDrive)
- Assist in maintaining internal collaboration platforms
- Provide basic user training on digital tools
Data Management and Security
- Assist in data backup and recovery procedures
- Support implementation of ICT security policies and best practices
- Help ensure compliance with UNICEF data protection standards
Asset Management
- Maintain ICT inventory records and documentation
- Support tracking and tagging of IT equipment
Innovation & Digital Initiatives
- Contribute to digital transformation initiatives (automation tools, dashboards, etc.)
- Support basic data visualization or reporting tasks
Other Duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
- An advanced university degree (Licence or higher) in Computer Sciences, Telecommunication, ICT or related field.
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
- Fluency in French is required. Knowledge in English is an asset.
