Stretch Assignment Wash Officer/Wash Specialist NOB-P2/NOC-P3, Monrovia/Liberia (3 months)

Under the general guidance of the Deputy Representative, Programme, and the direct technical guidance of the WASH/Climate Specialist, the WASH Specialist will provide professional technical, operational and coordination support to UNICEF Liberia Country Office. The assignment will help sustain critical WASH programme delivery, strengthen programme monitoring and reporting, support government and partner coordination, and advance ongoing system strengthening initiatives alongside key climate and WASH priorities, including water, sanitation and hygiene services, emergency preparedness and response, DRR and climate-resilience, infection prevention and control, and school and health facility WASH interventions.

• Deliverable 1. Programme implementation support: Provide technical support to the planning, implementation and monitoring of priority climate and WASH interventions under the UNICEF Liberia Country Programme, including support to Rolling Work Plan (RWP) implementation, review of partner progress, identification of implementation bottlenecks, and follow-up on agreed actions with government counterparts and civil society partners.
• Deliverable 2. Climate and WASH sector coordination and partnership: Support coordination with relevant government ministries, agencies, counties, UN agencies, donors and implementing partners to strengthen alignment around climate and WASH priorities, including sector coordination meetings, technical working groups, partner consultations, and follow-up on joint action points.
• Deliverable 3. Monitoring, reporting and evidence generation: Contribute to the timely preparation and quality assurance of climate and WASH progress updates, grant management, donor reports, field monitoring reports, situation updates and knowledge products, including en year reporting exercises as per the need, ensuring that results, challenges, risks and lessons learned are clearly documented and used to inform programme decisions.
• Deliverable 4. Emergency preparedness and response: Support UNICEF’s WASH emergency preparedness and response capacity, including review of contingency actions, partner readiness, supplies and service delivery arrangements, and provide technical support for rapid response planning including DRR and EWS where required.
•  Deliverable 5. Technical inputs to strategic documents and resource mobilization: Provide technical inputs to WASH concept notes, funding proposals, donor updates, briefing notes, talking points and programme documents, ensuring alignment with UNICEF Liberia priorities and relevant national WASH strategies.

High degree of fluency in written and verbal English

Funding arrangement
This is a temporary development opportunity and there will be no changes to the staff member’s status (position number, level, etc.).

The Office will cover the ticket for economy class travel and 100% of the UN DSA rate during the first 30 days, and 50% DSA for the remaining time.
