UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women Mozambique focuses its interventions on women’s economic empowerment, participation, and democratic governance, combating violence against women, among others. In Cabo Delgado and Nampula, UN Women works to protect and empower crisis-affected women and girls in northern Mozambique by providing immediate recovery assistance, restoring livelihoods, and strengthening women’s leadership and participation in humanitarian response and recovery efforts.
Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative and direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, the Project Field Coordinator works closely with the programme and operations team, Provincial Government, UN Agencies involved in the humanitarian response and civil society to ensure the technical direction and implementation of the project and key outputs are achieved in a cost-effective and timely manner. Under this outcome, the Project Field Coordinator will support the delivery of the following outputs: Output 1: 2,800 crisis-affected women and girls, including 560 women heads of households (20%), 560 adolescent mothers (20%) and 140 women with disability (5%), have improved access to emergency non-food items (NFIs) and livelihood support to help rebuild lost income sources, reduce dependency on humanitarian aid and prevent negative coping mechanisms. Output 2: Capacities of around 100 representatives of local women’s organizations and authorities are strengthened to enable women’s meaningful participation and leadership in gender-responsive emergency preparedness and response.
From the perspective of advancing the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus, UN Women will engage with key humanitarian coordination structures such as the Protection, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Clusters, GBV and Child Protection Area of Responsibilities (AoRs), leveraging UN Women’s leadership of the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group (GiHA WG) to promote a gender-responsive response aligned with the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Gender Policy and inter-agency coordination efforts. The Project Field Coordinator will work closely with the Gender and Humanitarian Expert based in Pemba to support coordination with humanitarian actors, ensure the integration of gender-responsive approaches in project implementation, and facilitate engagement with cluster partners, local authorities, and women’s organizations to strengthen the participation and leadership of women and girls in humanitarian preparedness and response.
