Learning Effectiveness Program

The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver was founded in 1982 and is an internationally recognized program for neurodivergent learners. LEP is a fee-for-service program offering access to supports for learners with Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), students on the Autism Spectrum, and/or students who have a history of learning differences.
Our Mission is two-fold:
• To support and service University of Denver students
• To serve as a resource to the University Community

The Manager of Tutoring Services oversees all aspects of the Learning Effectiveness Programs tutoring services, managing 75-100 tutors who serve 400-450 LEP students. This role encompasses recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and ongoing professional development of tutoring staff. The Manager ensures tutors receive College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification training, maintains program standards, processes payroll, and resolves conflicts between students and tutors. Additionally, this position involves program assessment, campus collaboration, and representation of LEP tutoring services at professional conferences and events.

Program Management 

  • Provide overall management and supervision of tutoring services for 400-450 LEP students
  • Serve as primary liaison between counselors, tutors, and students
  • Set expectations and communicate policies for tutoring services to all stakeholders
  • Monitor program for academic integrity violations
  • Resolve communication issues and tutoring conflicts collaboratively

Hiring and Supervision 

  • Recruit, hire, and evaluate 75-100 tutors based on student enrollment needs
  • Determine tutoring needs
  • Supervise and evaluate 5-8 Lead Tutors who mentor tutor groups and implement program initiatives
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of tutor performance

Training and Professional Development 

  • Provide comprehensive onboarding for new tutoring staff
  • Deliver training on techniques for working with diverse learning styles and Universal Design for Learning principles
  • Plan and facilitate ongoing professional development to maintain current best practices
  • Ensure all tutors complete CRLA certification requirements and ongoing training
  • Actively participate in professional development at university, Dean of Students, division, and department levels

Payroll and Administrative Management 

  • Process accurate and timely payroll through Pioneer Time (Kronos) system each pay period
  • Approve all tutor timesheets and track additional administrative and preparation time
  • Monitor recorded time to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Respond to emails and voice messages within 24 hours
  • Track tutoring services costs and evaluate on a year-to-year basis
  • Conduct program evaluation and assessment including data collection, surveys, analysis, and reporting

Campus Collaboration and Partnerships 

  • Partner with faculty and staff to create access to learning through resource and strategy sharing
  • Collaborate with campus colleagues to recruit subject-specific tutors
  • Work with other tutoring centers including Athletics, Writing Center, Mathematics Lab, and Science and Engineering
  • Support FLYTE (LEP Pre-orientation), Eye to Eye, and ADDventure Conference
  • Support prospective student visits and social skill building events
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Expertise in interviewing, hiring, and training tutors for diverse subject areas and students with learning disabilities
  • Proven ability to supervise large, diverse staff (75-100 tutors) with varying schedules
  • Strong accountability and expectation-setting skills with supervisees
  • Exceptional mental flexibility, prioritization, and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency in learning and training others on tutor scheduling systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of learning disabilities and differences
  • Deep understanding of confidentiality requirements and FERPA
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong collaboration skills with students, staff, faculty, and families

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, education, special education, or closely related field
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience working with students
  • Experience in Tutoring Services management/administration
  • Specialized training and experience working with students with learning disabilities and differences
  • Knowledge and experience applying Universal Design for Learning concepts
  • Masters degree in psychology, education, special education, or closely related field
  • Experience managing a tutoring center
  • Experience with a tutoring management/scheduling system
  • Familiarity with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification process
  • Specialized experience working with college-level students with learning disabilities and differences
  • Supervisory experience with tutors
  • Experience developing and leading professional workshops and training sessions

Working Environment: Standard office environment, unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high, noise level is quiet to moderate

This position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional evening, weekends, and holiday shifts. (Schedules vary by department and position.) Staff are expected to support student Hallmark, Tradition and other program events throughout the year. The University of Denver and Student Affairs recognize the utilization of flexible work arrangements where these arrangements are operationally appropriate, and supervisor approved.

Physical Activities: Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time, occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
