The Department of Computer Science at the University of Denver (DU) is building an academically and culturally inclusive faculty and staff who teach and work in a supportive environment surrounded by people with a strong commitment to Ethics and Inclusivity.

We invite applications for multiple full-time non-tenure-track faculty positions as a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor in Computer Science, with particular interest in applicants who have strengths in CS education, CS theory, data science, algorithms, artificial intelligence, games, and security and privacy. The positions are for the 2026-2027 academic year and begin on September 1, 2026. The appointments will be made for nine-month positions, with the possibility of extension (e.g., for another quarter or for another 9-month term). If candidates are interested, there is potential to incorporate course development and/or teaching an elective course in the candidate’s area.

We are intending to hire one or more Visiting Assistant Professors for the upcoming academic year. Applicants who are not available full time but may want to teach part-time are also encouraged to apply. Our professional programs have courses after normal business hours that may fit applicants who prefer to teach in the evening. We are specifically interested in applicants who can teach and potentially help develop courses in:

  • CS education,
  • CS theory/algorithms,
  • Data Science,
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI),
  • CS with Game focus,
  • Security and Privacy

The University, through its faculty, shall engage in a variety of professional functions, such as teaching, scholarly research and/or creative activity, shared governance, and professional/public service. The relative priority of these functions carried out by colleges, schools, divisions, departments, centers, and individual faculty members should and does vary.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods.
  • Outstanding teaching skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with various communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broad student populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, and access in education.
  • Exceptional abilities in scholarly and/or creative activities are needed as required by the department/center/school/college and position.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in computer science or a related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Teaching experience in a college or university setting.
  • Ability to teach both undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Computer Science as evidenced by background or teaching experience.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departmental, school, and university teachers and researchers
  • PhD or terminal degree in Computer Science or related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary problems that contribute to the public good.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage student populations in computer science.
  • Ability to teach both graduate courses in Computer Science as evidenced by background or teaching experience.
