• Lead the development of the University’s bid for the 2026 National Environmental Science Program Marine Hub (NESP3).
• Strengthen the delivery of IMAS Strategy 2025-2030
• Drive the formation of a national consortium to deliver integrated, decision-ready marine science for Australia

This is a strategic senior academic appointment at the University of Tasmania, established to lead the development of the University’s bid for the 2026 National Environmental Science Program Marine Hub (NESP3). Subject to bid success, the position will also provide executive-level academic leadership for the delivery of the Hub over its initial six-year funding period.

Responsible for designing the Hub’s program architecture, governance model, and performance framework; securing and sustaining partner commitments; and ensuring that research delivery is aligned to national decision-making priorities and cycles. These include climate adaptation, restoration and nature repair, environmental approvals, cumulative impact assessment, National Ecosystem Accounts, and State of the Environment reporting.

We’re seeking an outstanding research leader with a PhD (or equivalent) and an internationally recognised track record of excellence, funding success and policy impact. You’ll lead large, multidisciplinary programs, bringing strong governance, strategic oversight and partnership skills. With deep expertise at the science/policy/practice interface, you’ll translate complex evidence into actionable guidance and decision-support tools. You’ll build trusted collaborations across government, Traditional Owners, industry and communities, while mentoring teams, supervising HDR candidates and representing the University at senior national and international levels.
