Research Associate - Marine Geochemistry

This position is funded by the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS). ACEAS is a national-scale, university-led, research centre focused on helping the world prepare for climate risks emerging from East Antarctica and the Southern Ocean by integrating knowledge of the ocean, atmosphere, cryosphere and ecosystems, and their interplay. ACEAS 2026-2028 will focus on understanding the Denman region and its role in the broader Antarctic and Southern Ocean systems.  The program leverages successful field campaigns and exciting opportunities to collaborate across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. • →Undertake high-quality marine geochemical research of national and international standing.
• →Generate high quality datasets of porewater concentrations of rare earth elements and Nd isotopic composition.
• →Contribute to collaborative work on Zn and Si benthic flux.
• →Contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
• →Drive interdisciplinary collaboration within ACEAS, nationally amongst Antarctic researchers, and internationally.­

•  A PhD in chemical oceanography, geochemistry or a relevant field (e.g. marine geology)
• A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition.
• Knowledge of marine geochemistry, including trace metal and/or isotope analysis, and experience or familiarity with sediment and porewater systems.
• Experience, relative to current career stage, in research supervision, and supporting graduate level learning.
• A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally.

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $125,877 comprising base salary within the range of $83,198 to $107,587 plus 17% superannuation.
