HORTICULTURIST ASSISTANT, OUTDOOR LANDSCAPES

Longwood Gardens is seeking a part time Horticulturist Assistant for the Outdoor Landscape Division. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in the historic Pierre’s Woods and surrounding native plant areas. This individual will join a skilled horticultural team and will learn to perform a wide range of horticultural tasks and duties with guidance. Responsibilities will include watering, weeding, mulching and planting. This individual will work with students, volunteers, and other staff members to create and maintain the garden's horticultural excellence.

We are looking for a candidate with a passion for native plants and the outdoors. The ideal candidate will have: 

• A desire to learn and advance in the field of horticulture.
• Basic horticultural experience and experience working in a public garden are preferred.
• The ability to bend, stoop, and lift at least 50 pounds.
• The ability to work from ladders and small equipment. 
• A valid driver’s license and be willing to adhere to Longwood’s safety protocols. 
• The ability to work occasional weekends to support watering tasks.

This position will work an average of 28 hours per week and will start at 6:30 AM.

The successful candidates will be effective working as part of a team as well as independently and have the ability to work from ladders. Horticultural knowledge and skills would be helpful, but more importantly a willingness and ability to learn and perform manual repetitive tasks is needed.
