With over 450 employees in seven global offices – from Amsterdam to Austin, Hong Kong to Dubai – UNS is more than an architecture firm. We’re a collective of thinkers, problem solvers, and creative minds working across disciplines to shape a better world. Whether it’s cities or airports, bridges or brands, we design solutions that address real societal challenges.
For our headquarters in Amsterdam, we are looking for architectural interns who want to participate as full team members, working on a handful of our projects to contribute through their work and creativity.
At a practice that has more than 30 years of building experience, you will learn not only how to design but also how architecture is created and realized. Our knowledge and craftsmanship are strong pillars of our company. During your internship, you will assist during the concept-, sketch-, and design development processes. Here you will learn and experience envisioning, diagrams, creating, detailing, and realizing complex assignments by transferring them into practice. You will also get the opportunity to maintain customer relationships. Your skills will develop during the internship, as you are closely involved with our projects. The senior architects and designers guide you through the process, where you learn the newest designing methods which will be practiced in your future career as an architect.
During your internship, you will be part of a team that builds knowledge, undertakes research, and applies architecture and design skills in order to future-proof new projects. From our KTC Masterplan in Bangalore to the new Booking.com office in Amsterdam, and from Southbank by Beulah to the Qatar integrated railway project…our interns have had an impact. We believe that the key to ‘future-proofing the future’ is knowledge. Therefore, we will teach you during the internship to understand the most up to date trends and practices in architecture and beyond. Our mission is to produce user-centric designs that are adaptive, resilient and future-proof, and we believe every employee at every level should embrace these aspects in their work.
UNS organizes events for all of our employees, such as conferences, lectures from designers, ‘lunch & learn’ sessions to explore craft and materials, sport events, and of course Amsterdam’s anticipated Summer & Winter parties. All of which are an informal and open method of learning about architectural-related innovations or simply getting to know other colleagues!
A completed Bachelor's degree preferred; must be currently enrolled in a university (Master’s program preferred) or higher technical school program for the entire duration of the internship
Related work experience/internship is a plus
Strong design sensibilities with the ability to contribute and cultivate design ideas/concepts
Team player with the ability to take ownership of work, keep deadlines, and clearly communicate with Project Leaders and other team members
Good knowledge of Rhinoceros, preferably also of Grasshopper and Revit
Good knowledge of AutoCAD and the Adobe Suite Package are nice to have
Good design capacities
Fluent in written and spoken English; other languages are a plus
Reliable, proactive, flexible, and dedicated
Available for 4-5 working days per week in the Amsterdam office
You are enrolled at an educational institution for the whole duration of your internship.
The internship is a required part of the curriculum (e.g. for ECTS credit) of the study program.
In the case of non-EU citizenship, you must be registered as a student at a Dutch educational institution. In case of EU citizenship, you may be registered at any educational institution.
Physical presence at the location of your internship. We believe that you learn most when you can work directly with your colleagues. It is therefore not possible to work completely remote and UNS does not facilitate housing for your internship period.
We frequently look for interns to add to our architectural teams year-round. To ensure a smooth process and provide everyone with equal opportunities, we periodically open the internship vacancy for upcoming semesters. This way, we also have enough time to review all applications and respond as much as possible.
