ROLE
The Pipefitter Apprentice is responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical piping systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
- Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
- Join pipe sections using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment, according to blueprints and job specifications.
- Inspect, examine and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
- Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
- Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
- Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
- Rigging and hoisting pipe sections, steel frames, valves, shoes, plus misc. piping attachments with cranes, picker trucks and side booms.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Must have Journeyperson Pipefitter Certification or alternatively be an Apprentice from a recognized provincial training authority.
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial construction or pipeline industry.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pipefitter in facilities construction would be an asset.
- Knowledge of industrial construction or pipeline construction industry.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods of time.
- Safety conscientious as well as a team player.
- Be able to plan and organize small tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Able to work 6 days on, 1 day off shift with 11-hour shifts (10 hours worked, 1 hour travel) for the duration of project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Pipefitter Apprentice reports to the Foreperson of their crew. The position has no supervisory duties.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION RANGE
$30.68 – $44.72 per hour
