We build everything in-house: from our e-commerce platform and mobile app to complex internal systems for production, warehouses, WMS, and retail stores.
We are looking for a hands-on CTO who will become the technical heart of the company. Someone who will give our engineering a clear direction, set a high bar for technical excellence, and act as a strong partner to our Tech Leads and the business.
Responsibilities

Engineering Strategy: You will define the technical vision and engineering roadmap that supports Vilgain’s business growth, international expansion, and operational complexity.

Audit & Architecture: You will carry out a deep audit of the current architecture and codebase, identify weak points, and propose a clear path to fixing them.

Technical Standards: You will set clear standards for architecture, code quality, testing, documentation, security, deployment, and long-term maintainability.
Team Leadership: You will lead, challenge, and develop Tech Leads and engineering teams across Backend, Frontend, Mobile, IS, and QA, making sure the right level of ownership and accountability exists across the organisation.

Monitoring & Observability: You will ensure we have real-time visibility into the stability and performance of all our systems.

Decision-making: As the main technical stakeholder, you will decide what to build, what to scale, and how to effectively tackle technical debt in line with business priorities.

You will report directly to the CEO.

The entire engineering organisation will report to you: Tech Leads and developers across Backend, Frontend, Mobile, IS, and QA.
Hands-on approach: You are not just a theoretical manager. You know how things are actually built, you can get close to the code, and when needed, you are able to step in and do the work yourself.
Engineering leadership: You have already led senior engineers or Tech Leads and know how to raise the technical bar across multiple teams, not just within one project.
Business understanding: You are not building technology for technology’s sake. You understand how engineering decisions impact growth, operations, profitability, customer experience, and speed of execution.
Operational excellence: You have experience making systems more stable, observable, and predictable — including monitoring, incident management, uptime, performance, and ownership of production issues.
Technology stack: Our core runs on PHP. Knowledge of modern Python or JavaScript could be a plus.
Infrastructure experience: You have a proven track record of building and scaling technical infrastructure in a growing company.
Mindset: Ideally, you are “founder-level”, either you have built your own company, or you are a senior Engineering Manager or Tech Lead who has demonstrated strong strategic thinking and has led teams.
E-commerce: Experience in e-commerce is an advantage, but not a requirement.
