Position Summary
The Dentist provides high‑quality clinical oral health care to clients accessing the public dental clinic, ensuring safe, evidence‑informed, and culturally sensitive services. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and reporting to the Manager of Oral Health, the role supports improved oral health outcomes for priority populations by delivering preventative, restorative, and emergency dental care. The Dentist ensures clinical excellence through appropriate diagnosis, treatment planning, and adherence to infection prevention and control standards. Through collaboration with internal staff, external providers, and community partners, the role enhances access to care and strengthens oral health pathways across the community.

Improve the oral health of priority populations through timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment planning, and evidence-informed clinical services.
Strengthen care coordination by establishing and maintaining effective referral pathways with dental, medical, and community providers.
Ensure a safe clinical environment through consistent application of infection prevention and control and radiographic quality assurance standards.
Enhance client experience by fostering a welcoming, culturally sensitive, and inclusive approach to care delivery.
Support efficient clinic operations by leading clinical workflow, contributing to teamwork, and promoting continuous quality improvement.
Core Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive medical and dental assessments and verify histories prior to treatment.
Serve as Radiation Protection Officer for the organization.
Diagnose oral health conditions, develop treatment plans, and obtain informed consent from clients or families.
Provide a range of basic and emergency dental treatments, including restorations, extractions, selected endodontic procedures, and preventive care.
Prescribe medications and administer local anesthesia in accordance with regulatory and clinical standards.
Apply and monitor infection prevention and control (IPAC) practices to ensure patient and staff safety.
Operate dental radiographic equipment and interpret radiographs, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and safety requirements.
Manage referrals to and from dental, medical, and specialist providers, strengthening collaborative care pathways.
Lead clinical workflow to support efficient client flow and effective teamwork within the clinic.
Collaborate with the oral health team to connect clients with social, health, and community resources as needed.
Maintain accurate documentation, protect confidentiality, and uphold ethical and professional standards.
Engage respectfully with clients from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusive and culturally appropriate care.
Qualifications
Required
Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from a university recognized by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and eligible to practice clinical dentistry in Ontario.
Current member in good standing with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario
Experience working in a dental office, community health facility and/or public health setting.
Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs.
Current BLS (CPR Level HCP) certification as a minimum.
Demonstrated understanding of the diverse and complex health and social needs of the community members, particularly those experiencing social inequity and discrimination.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
Fluency in languages other than English is an asset.
Previous experience working with children and/or senior population an asset.
Other Requirements
Familiarity with government legislation, such as occupational health and safety, and privacy legislation.
Available to work in various locations and under flexible hours.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools

Wage Grid:
$74.27 - $81.94 hourly
All WECHU staff are required to show proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella and varicella through immunization records or blood work AND provide a two-step Mantoux tuberculin skin test or one-step Interferon Gamma Release Assay test PRIOR to employment start.
A Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) or a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be required as a condition of employment.
