The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local Service is an integrated wellbeing and support service
delivered through partnership in the Maroondah and Yarra Ranges Shires. Operating six days a
week with extended hours, we provide clinical support, care, and wellbeing services to people
aged 26+ experiencing mental health challenges, including co-occurring substance use or
addiction.

About the Role

This fixed-term opportunity with Wellways places you at the frontline of a welcoming, community-based mental health service in the Yarra Ranges.

Operating since December 2023, the Yarra Ranges Local provides face-to-face support across multiple community locations, alongside outreach, group participation, and community engagement initiatives that strengthen understanding of mental health and wellbeing. This is a designated Consumer Lived Experience role, grounded in lived experience values and the Intentional Peer Support framework. You’ll support people at their first point of contact, assist with intake and waitlist engagement, and offer peer support - including brief interventions and a small caseload of ongoing one-to-one support.

You’ll work alongside individuals experiencing mental health and/or alcohol and other drug challenges, supporting them to identify what matters to them, connect with services of their choosing, and build hope, connection, and self-determination.

  • Personal experience of distress, trauma, mental illness and/or substance use and the recovery journey, accessing and navigating health carer services, including mental health services and a willingness to draw upon your experiences and recovery journey to inform your work
  • Minimum qualification in Intentional Peer Support, SHARC Peer worker training, Certificate IV Mental Health Peer work, Certificate IV in AoD
  • Strong understanding of the principles of recovery-oriented practice and peer work values and principles.

  • Current valid Driver’s License and the ability to undertake travel for the role
  • Current Working with Children Check and NDIS Workers Screening Check
  • Right to Work within Australia
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check (valid within the last 12 months)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate

This is a designated Consumer Lived Experience position. The role is grounded in Lived Experience values and Intentional Peer Support framework and focuses on initial contact with participants, intake support, waitlist engagement, brief or single session peer support and service navigation. This role will also hold a small caseload for ongoing one to one peer support.
