Create your best future and join Westpac as a Lead Quality Software Engineer (Performance).
What’s the role?
You’ll take the lead in shaping how performance and non‑functional quality are built into some of our most critical platforms. This role is all about setting the standards that help teams deliver software that is fast, resilient, scalable and reliable. You’ll define performance strategies, embed non‑functional testing into delivery pipelines, and make sure quality is designed in from the very start rather than tested in at the end.
You’ll work closely with product, engineering, architecture and risk partners to define meaningful non‑functional requirements and guide design decisions early. You’ll also coach and mentor engineers, helping lift performance engineering capability across teams and creating consistent, high‑quality practices. Along the way, you’ll use data, metrics and insights to highlight risks, drive improvements and improve customer experience.
This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Sydney on Gadigal Country, giving you flexibility while working on systems that truly matter at scale.
What do I need?
• Experience leading performance engineering or non‑functional testing for business‑critical systems
• Strong understanding of non‑functional requirements, SLOs and SLAs in complex or regulated environments
• Hands‑on experience with performance testing tools and CI CD integration
• Confidence interpreting performance results and driving improvement with engineering teams
• A collaborative mindset and a passion for coaching and continuous improvement
