General Superintendent
Play an integral role in delivering complex construction projects that shape the future of the energy, chemicals, and resources industries. As General Superintendent, you will provide visible field leadership and strategic oversight for all site construction activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and operational excellence.
Working at the heart of project delivery, you will lead multidisciplinary construction teams, coordinate with customers and project stakeholders, and drive the successful execution of projects ranging from approximately 250,000 to 2 million construction labor hours and total installed costs between $50 million and $400 million. Your leadership will directly influence project outcomes, workforce performance, customer satisfaction, and overall business success.
Purpose of the role
The General Superintendent serves as the senior site construction leader responsible for directing, coordinating, and optimizing all field execution activities throughout the project lifecycle. This role provides strategic leadership across construction, field engineering, procurement coordination, subcontractor management, and field administration to ensure project objectives are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with customer expectations.
You will foster a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement while ensuring construction execution aligns with project plans, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for
- Leading all site construction activities and providing overall direction for field execution teams across multiple disciplines.
- Driving a strong safety culture by promoting proactive hazard identification, risk mitigation, and compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Implementing project execution strategies, plans, and procedures to achieve project objectives and successful outcomes.
- Managing field operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within approved budgets.
- Providing leadership and guidance to superintendents, supervisors, subcontractors, and construction personnel to maximize team performance and productivity.
- Coordinating construction activities with engineering, procurement, commissioning, customer representatives, and project management teams.
- Monitoring project performance, identifying execution risks, and implementing corrective actions to maintain project commitments.
- Supporting workforce planning, resource allocation, and productivity improvement initiatives to optimize project delivery.
- Establishing strong working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to support collaborative project execution.
- Reviewing construction progress, schedules, forecasts, and performance metrics to ensure alignment with project goals.
- Leading resolution of complex field challenges while balancing safety, quality, schedule, cost, and operational requirements.
- Facilitating effective communication across project teams and providing clear, timely reporting to senior management and customers.
- Supporting proposal development, constructability reviews, execution planning, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.

What you’ll bring to the role
You are a respected construction leader with extensive experience delivering medium-scale capital projects within the EPC, energy, chemicals, resources, infrastructure, or industrial construction sectors. You combine strong technical expertise with exceptional leadership capabilities and a proven ability to build high-performing teams in demanding project environments.
Key qualifications include:
- University degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent trade qualification supported by advanced technical training and relevant experience.
- Typically 10+ years of relevant experience with a degree, or 15+ years of relevant construction leadership experience supported by trade qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience leading construction execution on large industrial, energy, chemical, mining, infrastructure, or major capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles, field operations, project controls, labor productivity, and execution planning.
- Proven ability to implement project execution strategies and drive successful project outcomes.
- Advanced understanding of construction systems, methods, tools, processes, and industry best practices.
- Experience managing and developing construction leadership teams, supervisors, craft personnel, and subcontractors.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to recognize project risks and develop practical, effective solutions.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to influence decisions, build trust, and foster collaboration across diverse project teams and customer organizations.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and sound professional judgment.
