About Woven by Toyota
Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.

Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

TEAM
Toyota is redefining what it means to move. We're challenging the current state of mobility by enhancing the movement of people, goods, information and energy. Centered around three core concepts - A Living Laboratory™, Human-Centered, and Ever Evolving City™ - Woven City serves as a test course for mobility to fulfill our purpose of well-being for all.

We do this by bringing together a diverse community of people with a shared passion for the future of mobility to co-create, develop and refine innovative products and services. This cross-section of social infrastructure, mobility, and people provides a unique opportunity for inventors, residents and visitors to interact seamlessly with new technologies throughout daily life in an environment that emulates a real city.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking highly motivated, energetic, and exceptional engineers to join our team. In this role, you are expected to apply your expertise in software development and cloud-based platforms, along with your knowledge of backend development and system design skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Join us in building the next-generation smart home experience for real-world urban environments. As an IoT Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the development and operation of software that runs on edge devices controlling home appliances. These devices form a foundational layer in a platform that ensures safe, seamless, and energy-efficient living—connected to mobile apps and cloud services.

What You’ll Do:
・Develop and operate edge software for smart home devices, primarily using Python in Dockerized environments
・Lead the end-to-end development cycle: from requirements gathering and architecture design to implementation and testing
・Design real-time control and data pipelines using asynchronous protocols such as MQTT
・Optimize embedded firmware layers based on Thread, Zigbee, or other IoT protocols (written in C)
・Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, security, and operations teams to deliver a secure, extensible, and city-scale IoT infrastructure
・Contribute to a high-performance engineering culture through knowledge sharing and mentorship within the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Proven experience in specification design and system architecture based on stakeholder requirements
  • Hands-on experience with real-time data processing using MQTT or similar asynchronous protocols
  • 3+ years of Python software development experience
  • 5+ years of experience using multiple programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, Go, Python, C)
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency and a willingness to improve English skills
  • Experience building embedded software for mass production using at least one IoT protocol (Zigbee, Matter, Thread, BLE, Echonet Lite, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of agile development, with high standards for code quality and testing
  • Experience with AI/ML-powered image processing systems for cameras
  • Hands-on collaboration with hardware vendors and managing hardware/software integration
  • Experience building cloud applications for IoT (e.g., AWS, GCP)
  • Ability to prototype rapidly using AI-assisted tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar
  • Business-level English proficiency
