Data EngineerData

You are an engineer with a pragmatic mindset and a strong sense of ownership. You understand the responsibility that comes with building and running production systems, and you enjoy turning complex technical challenges into robust, reliable solutions.

You have experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field, and you’re ready to take the next step in your career by deepening your expertise in data engineering and Databricks. You feel comfortable switching between scripting and structured programming in typed languages, understand the importance of cloud infrastructure and automation, and are eager to learn, experiment, and build scalable data platforms alongside experienced engineers.

You care about how systems work, not just getting them live. You want to build solutions that stand the test of time, continuously improve them, and make a meaningful impact for our clients.

XDD is one of Xebia's divisions, renowned for its expertise in building strong Data and AI solutions on Databricks that deliver value to our clients. In the past, our team has predicted daily bread demand for millions of loaves, built advanced energy-saving algorithms at a national scale, and built data platforms supporting millions of customers.

You'll work with the sharpest data professionals in Europe, people who are not only technically brilliant but also generous with their knowledge. We enjoy the benefits of being part of a large organization while maintaining the energetic atmosphere of a scale-up. Our commitment to our community is strong; we are deeply rooted in the local landscape, sponsoring and organizing conferences, meetups, and giving back to the open-source community through our initiatives.

Responsibilities

~1 min read

As a data engineer, you'll build and maintain the foundations of data-intensive systems on Databricks. You'll help organizations store, transform, and process data at scale by developing the infrastructure and pipelines that power their data platforms and enable better decision-making.

Your work will cover the full lifecycle of data engineering: from designing and implementing data pipelines to deploying, monitoring, maintaining, and improving production systems. You'll focus on security, reliability, scalability, and maintainability, ensuring that the solutions you build continue to deliver value long after go-live.

During your
first month, you'll focus on essential technical foundations and deepen your understanding of modern data engineering, Databricks, and cloud technologies. From your second month onward, you'll start working as a consultant with our clients, applying what you've learned in real-world environments.

During your first year, you'll work on a long-term client engagement, build domain knowledge, gain hands-on experience, and take ownership of production systems. This is not about moving quickly from one project to another; it's about building a strong foundation, learning from experienced colleagues, and delivering sustainable results.

As your skills develop, you'll have opportunities to work with different technologies, environments, and levels of complexity, supported by a
team committed to your growth.

This cross-skilling program is designed for professionals with experience in data, software engineering, or related technical fields who want to develop their skills and grow into stronger Databricks data engineers.

We are looking for engineers with at least one year of experience who are curious, proactive, and motivated to grow their expertise in data engineering and Databricks. You bring professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field. You have a solid technical foundation, are comfortable with coding and scripting, and understand the importance of building secure, reliable, and maintainable systems.

You don't need to know everything about Databricks from day one. What matters is that you're eager to learn, take ownership, and apply your knowledge to real-world challenges. Experience with Databricks, Spark, cloud platforms, or modern data technologies is a strong advantage.
The program starts in February 2027!

Just as importantly, we want colleagues who contribute to an inclusive, collaborative culture where people feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to share their ideas.

📌 Please note: This role is open to candidates based in the Netherlands. Professional-level Dutch proficiency is required.

✅  You have experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field and want to grow your expertise in Databricks.

✅ You're interested in technologies such as Databricks, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and modern cloud platforms.

✅ You care about building reliable production systems and improving them beyond the initial launch.

✅ You enjoy taking ownership, sharing ideas, and making thoughtful technical decisions.

✅ You understand the importance of cloud infrastructure and are eager to deepen your knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP.

❌ You prefer to avoid responsibility or are hesitant to take initiative and bring your ideas forward.
