We are seeking a motivated Head of Accounting to oversee and lead all of our financial and accounting operations for our clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves managing financial reporting, budgeting, and audits, as well as developing and implementing financial strategies to support the company’s growth. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and extensive experience in the service-based or construction-related service business or financial services industry.

This is a part-time role that will transition to full-time in 2-3 months.

Requirements

We are looking for a Head of Accounting specifically with these requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, staff, and senior management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Preference of at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference of at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • At least 3+ years of experience in accounting in a service-based or construction-related service business.
  • Strong experience in month-end close processes, financial reporting, and overseeing the production and quality of accounting work.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Wave) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with job costing (and software) and project accounting is a strong plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and produce accurate financial reports.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of accountants, ensuring high standards of work quality and productivity.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to implement and improve accounting processes and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Experience in providing mentorship and training to junior staff members.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

1. Month-End Close Process:

  • Oversee and manage the entire month-end close process, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and finalized within established timelines.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and other closing activities.

2. Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reports, providing clear and actionable insights to senior management.

3. Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality in all accounting work, implementing quality control measures to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Review and approve work performed by the accounting team, ensuring it meets the firm’s standards and client expectations.

4. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.

5. Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems, enhancing efficiency and reducing errors.
  • Implement best practices in accounting and financial reporting, staying current with industry trends and regulatory changes.

6. Client Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-level accounting matters with clients, addressing their needs and providing strategic financial guidance.
  • Ensure client satisfaction by delivering high-quality, timely, and accurate financial services.

7. Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Monitor and manage financial risks, implementing controls to mitigate potential issues.

8. Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support decision-making.

9. Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning process, aligning accounting objectives with the firm’s overall goals.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to drive business growth and operational efficiency.

10. Technology and Systems Management:

  • Manage and optimize accounting systems and software, ensuring they meet the needs of the firm and its clients.
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting technologies or upgrades to existing systems.

11. Ad Hoc Projects and Reporting:

  • Lead or support special projects as needed, such as PFG internal financial audits, system implementations, or process overhauls.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to senior management or clients as requested.

12. Tax Coordination

  • Lead client intake, document collection, and coordinate with our EA or CPA to execute tax filings.
  • Aid in year-end tax prep for clients
