Action for Healthy Communities Society of Alberta (AHC) is an Edmonton-based registered charity working with individuals, families, and grass roots community groups to build their capacities and communities. AHC works with all population groups, including immigrants and refugees, but particularly with equity-deserving individuals and communities to build their capacity and help them successfully integrate into society.

In 2025 AHC supported around 25,000 individuals through its collaborative programs and capacity-building strategies, including Settlement and Integration, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Literacy and Skills Development, Children Youth and Families support, and volunteer opportunities. AHC’s supports are available in the Greeter Edmonton Area and Northern Alberta Small Towns in collaboration with hundreds of partners and stakeholders. AHC is governed by a diverse group of engaged professionals representing various sectors and areas, aligning with its vision, mission, and mandate.

The Board of Directors of AHC are looking for volunteer Board Members who are driven by the belief that all individuals, including newcomers, with their rich and diverse backgrounds, are critical to Canada's economic growth. The AHC Board works with the Executive Director to ensure the organization's effective governance and meets monthly with a summer off every year. Occasionally, Board Members represent AHC at various forums and attend various community activities or events.

Being a policy board, the Board members are responsible for effective governance by setting the organization’s strategic direction, limitations, and accountability. Other critical areas of responsibility include policy development, organizational financial due diligence, and risk assessment and management. Board Members may also participate in committee work and are expected to volunteer 2 to 3 hours a month.

Length of Term: 2 years further extendable for 2 years

Currently, AHC Board is looking to fill four (4) vacant board member positions with experience in one or more of the following areas:

· Lawyers preferably practicing employment or corporate law

· Accounting and Financial Management preferably with a CPA designation

· Community and economic development, newcomers' settlement and integration

· IT-related background and experience

· Any other fields relevant to AHC vision and mission

We are looking for a diverse group of committed individuals who want to make a difference in their community. The volunteer board position is an excellent opportunity to leverage your experience, add value, and make a difference by giving back to the community.

Previous board experience is an asset but not a requirement to be considered for these positions. A criminal background check would be required.
