The Market Director position is responsible for the growth of existing convenience store customers’ base sales and profits while continually targeting and securing new, profitable customer sales. The Market Director is also responsible for the growth, development and cross training of all individual staff members for future needs and opportunities.

✓Maintain a high profile with all key customers and visit them on a scheduled basis.
✓Be available to all customers by phone and/or electronic communication on a daily basis.
✓Communicate, resolve, and take action on escalated customer issues and opportunities.
✓Calm emotionally charged customer situations by producing a win/win result for both the customer and McLane.
✓Coordinate key customer business reviews on a scheduled basis and set goals and objectives for the upcoming year.
✓Ensure presentation of new programs is completed in a manner that all customers understand the objectives and benefits of material presented.
✓Plan for timely and accurate implementation and ongoing monitoring of results derived from sales programs.
✓Review accounts receivables on a weekly basis and take appropriate action to keep customers within terms.
✓Maintain a high level of visibility with McLane divisions in their assigned territory by attending one P&L/staff meeting per month and calling into, or attending, operations meetings frequently.
✓Direct new business development and work directly with key prospective customers.
✓Direct and motivate a sales team—including assigned accounts—so that all objectives are clearly understood and plans are in effect to meet or exceed those objectives.
✓Recruit, hire and develop qualified sales people that are able to be promoted within McLane Company.
✓Communicate company and division information to teammates.
✓Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with teammates to review sales to budget results, sales objectives, sales training topics and modules, company and industry advances in and usage of technology, new items, new concepts and new programs.
✓Ensure all assigned teammates are well versed in all McLane technology applications by conducting regularly scheduled training sessions as well as encouraging self development for each teammate.
✓Enforce compliance with all laws, regulations, company policies and best practices associated with McLane or the Sales department.
✓Provide coaching/corrective action and performance management for all direct reports.
✓Maintain work and vacation schedules for direct reports.
✓Work with Merchandising to plan and implement high quality, profitable Vendex Trade Shows.
✓Evaluate and understand all competitors’ strengths, weaknesses, financials, technology, new initiatives, limitations, etc. within defined territory—McLane Competitive Intelligence (MCI).
✓Develop period end reports that accurately describe the customer status (financial, sales, atmosphere) in the assigned market.
✓Attend Divisional and Corporate management meetings as scheduled.
✓Develop sales, gross profit and expense budgets—capital and operational—and dutifully manage all expenses to exceed budgeted numbers.
✓Work with Division Controllers to analyze profitability for key customers on a schedule determined jointly with the Sales Director.
✓Keep the Sales Director informed on all issues that involve sales, customers, competition and changes in the marketplace.
✓Attend state, industry and key customer trade shows as agreed upon with the Sale Directors as budgeted.
✓Work with Sales Director to:o Provide clear, concise communication with the Grocery Distribution Support Center and division management teams.o Ensure sales objectives are established, monitored and met.o Initiate account service changes with minimal impact on division expenses.o Establish maximum visibility with customers at their corporate facility as well as at their regional, divisional and individual store locations.
✓Have Bachelors Degree in Business, Sales, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
✓Have 5 years of sales experience in the retail and wholesale food businesses.
✓Have 3 years of managerial and/or leadership experience.
✓Have an intermediate level of expertise in all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and have a working knowledge of Access.
✓Have experience in training and development of sales teammates.
✓Have a good working knowledge of the distribution environment and its challenges.
✓Have a good working knowledge of the convenience store industry.
✓Possess innovation and creativity in sales and gross profit planning.
✓Have administrative, motivational and management skills.
✓Be able to understand and compute the profitability of customers and different product lines.
✓Be able to produce accurate and informative business reviews and new customer presentations.
✓Possess leadership abilities to include both verbal and written communication skills, a professional attitude and appearance, organization skills, strong self-confidence, multi-task oriented decision-making skills and the ability to plan for success.
✓Be willing to travel as requested.
✓Be able to work with and communicate to many different reporting level groups to include store managers, company executives, peers and subordinates.
✓Be experienced in managing staffs with a background in hiring, training, motivating and resolving employee relations issues.
✓Have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, intra-company memos and outside correspondence.
✓Have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors and teammates.
✓Be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
✓Possess strong analytical and communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
✓Be able to successfully pass an education/experience verification.
✓The work conditions are primarily being an office, vehicle, or customer store.
✓This position has official supervisory responsibilities
