The Business
ADInstruments provides innovative solutions to facilitate research and education for organisations operating within the life science sphere. With a team of 60 in New Zealand and 180 globally, we have customers worldwide and are a leader in our field. We’re excited to have the opportunity for a Test Automation Engineer to join our team.
Your Role
Joining our team of engineers within the Research business unit, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining an improved automated testing framework. Your mission will be to modernise our software development lifecycle, improve test coverage, and validate the seamless integration of our life science research hardware with our applications.
You will work closely with both software and hardware teams to architect testing strategies, build custom tools (like simulators and mock drivers), and integrate automated test suites into our continuous integration pipeline. This is a fantastic opportunity to advocate for automation and elevate coding standards across a complex, real-time ecosystem.
The Team
We value diversity of all kinds and are committed to building an inclusive team where we learn from each other. Our team is collaborative, curious, and thrives on working on innovative changes to our products. Our customers are passionate life scientists who rely on high-quality, robust solutions to explore and pioneer discoveries. You’ll join a product team dedicated to regularly delivering value to those customers. We’re excited to introduce you to the ADInstruments culture, a team of passionate people who are driven by science, learning, and creating world-class products.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone who can deeply understand complex real-time systems and thoroughly comprehend intricate customer workflows. We’re excited about you because you’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferable), or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven professional experience developing test automation frameworks for software ecosystems and/or hardware devices.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as C#/.NET, C++, or Python (our core application is a legacy codebase written in C++ that interfaces directly with proprietary hardware).
- Experience working within an Agile software development team, with a high capacity to work exceptionally well within cross-functional teams and manage your own workload autonomously.
- Ability to empathise with developers, hardware engineers, and customers, and communicate technical issues and bugs in a highly professional, clear manner.
The following is desirable, but not required:
- Experience with Windows desktop automation tools and libraries, such as PyWinAuto or WinAppDriver.
- Experience or qualifications in physiology, biomedical engineering, or related life science fields.
These skills aren’t a requirements checklist. If you have only some of the above but would also bring something additional to our team, we’d love to talk!
